I just tried something similar but with wbs. Prepped it on the dry side and put a layer of verm on the bottom. I made two quarts one I put 50ml and one 90ml.

I shook them a lot the first couple days to distribute the water and at 8 days in the whole jars are covered in myc but I think the wetness slowed it down cuz it’s still pretty faint looking.


I’ve got a question about using tap water. I made two lcs but was out of good water so I just used tap. Our tap water is so hard I know a guy who got kidney stones from drinking it all the time. So anyway three days in and there’s barely any growth compared to my other ones. I was thinking I might’ve actually forgot to add the lme but I know I did.

dont shake if your using mpt as your filter.  you need something hydrophobic like a watman filter.  if the lc gets oin the filter it can contam easily.  swirl it. lots of people add something to agitate the myc like a screw or stirbar

Or dont use any filter and shake all ya want.

I personally dont like filters on my media bottles hence not being in the original post.

50cc is a ton of lc. Sure you can do that with dry grains but why bother. Just make normal grains and use 10ish ccs and probably have better results anyway.

Contamination wont spontaneously generate. If uiuare sterile you'll only have 1 organism growing... if you're sterile:uhoh:

I meant a shake for the grain jars. Is it advised to shake as usual, 30% and 70% colonization?

As far as the actual LC jars, they get a swirl when I’m close by.

shake once at ~20-30% and then not again until spawn time

I don't think you would need that much, but won't hurt if the grains can soak it up nicely.
I usually put 50ml to a bag and 10ml in a jar but it's your call.

I was really surprised how much 50ml covered a quart, I thought it would be way less but it’s pretty much everywhere.

Im trying 25 next time I think that might be perfect for how I had things prepped before. Enough myc without too much water slowing it down.

Why not just 10 or less? What's the appeal of using 25-50ccs of inoculate?

I really have no idea. This is my first round using lc. I was initially trying to colonize a quart of wbs ASAP, but I really underestimated the lc. That shit really gets in there and sticks to everything, and mine was only six days old, it’s much thicker now.

I’m sure as I drop the amount I’ll end up right where you guys say around 10ml, I also didn’t account for the extra water slowing the myc down.

The biggest revelation for me last week was g2g. Didn’t realize how well that works. So now I’m prob just gonna put a little lc into a pint of wbs then divide it into quarts.

Basically just getting all the experimenting with this stuff out of my system to see what’s what.

Holy shit I went to redo that cloudy lc and smelled it before I dumped it out.

Unquestionably bad. Never would’ve thought water with a pinch of lme could smell that strong after a few days.

So I trashed a quart full of lc last night bc it was kinda foggy. Was grain water lc and it was carry over lc of pan cyan gator. I've been having good luck with this culture but I got a bunch of yeast in several jars and since I used the last lc to start this one it was already suspect.

When I opened it to dump it I smelled it and it smelled good. Not sure if I would smell yeast in lc. I think I've had my best results using 50/50 grain-water/water, this one was all grain water. I had originally thought that was contributing to the fog until the yeast showed up.

Got a bottle of pan jam lc that looks great. I need to use it soon it's climbing up out of the water. I'm going to try to pour off most of the liquid and try to only pour in the myc chunks.

Does this look normal for a week from a tiny wedge?

I’m not sure if it’s the pics or that I shake mine everyday but it seems like other people’s looks different than mine do. Usually they look thicker in other peoples pics.

It could be that you're shaking. I have been pretty gentle swirling mine on the counter. I didn't want to pick up any bacteria from the lid/rim but that's probably overly cautious.

mine look like that sometimes,but i use the poke method, and i swirl as well, not shake.

I’m with mushboy, the amount of LC you are using is insane...
3cc LC is plenty for a quart jar. Ive done as much as 10cc LC and all it did was slow growth because it threw off the water content.

Yeah i do the swirl method too since my jars have a tiny filter on them. Deff doesn't take much lc for a quart jar. I try to do like 1.5-3 cc per jar.
Whats the medium and ratio? I have been using this from shroom supply with decent results. Just shot my first one in awhile up, about 5 days old right now. We shall see what happens.
