Say you had unlimited lc and just needed a quart colonized ASAP, how would you do it??

Seems like you’d have to underhydrate the grains or somehow strain the myc from the broth.

I've been wanting to something like this. 60ml LC's dedicated to one
bag. Seems a lot safer and it would grow out quicker me thinks.

I've put 120 ccs into a bag before. If you prep the grain dry you can add a shitload of liquid. Generally i just do a "splash" like mushboy said. Getting ready to test out a couple LCs myself.

How would I semi-accurately prep the grain dry to compensate for the extra liquid going in? Less boil time? I usually soak my grain overnight and bring to a full boil for 10 mins.

This is just one of the many aspects of magic cultivation (aka rainbow farming) that one cannot simply tell another. You just have to do and do it and do it until you start to feel what's what. I could tell you many different ways in many different words but you still would have to just get your sea legs under you.

I can tell you this, If i soak wbs in the hottest tap water my water heater will put out (roughly 160 F), let it soak 24 hours, dump it on my big ass strainer (your strainer will behave differently), let it drain all the till it quits dripping and load wet, It'll do wonderfully with regular amounts of LC (roughly ten for quart jars and somewhere around 30 for bags). But if i let it strain longer, until a good portion of the grain is dry on the outside, It'll accept a lot of LC.

I wouldn't really suggest one fuck around with these things until they've got a good feel for rainbow farming in general though.

Sure you can keep reusing it but there's an increased chance that some bacteria could grow on your ports or in the jar from a dirty operation and have time to grow. If you are using it all at once at least it won't all go bad from a single mistake. Just better chances that's all. LC can be a prickly whore when it goes wrong. I personally size my LC jars to have exactly what I need for one "batch" and it all works out good.

I recently had a 75% colonized LC of 400ml, it hadn't really done anything in a while so I decided to unscrew the media bottle 1/4 turn in case I was suffocating it (I have a tendency to keep my unmodded lids a little on the tight side unfortunately due to paranoia). 3 days later I noticed mold around the inner rim  It'd been growing out for almost 4 weeks w/o issue and one little 1/4 twist and BAM green.

:allsodisappointed:

Yeah, prickly whore is an understatement.

This is what bothers me about this method. I've no FH and it's quite cold here. I'm concerned the second i open that media bottle to put a wedge in, it'll suck in a bunch of dirty air. Or when I open it to use...

liquid culture doesnt require a flowhood.

still air box. pouring agar. pouring lc. same thing. if you can do one you can do the other.

getting contams around the rim of a jar is from being sloppy:nono:

i did this in my LAGM. I let the LC settle, and decanted the liquid off the top, then I dumped the rest (big boogers of myc, it was great) in to a jar of oats I prepped purposefully dry. I weighed the grains dry and after prep to be sure, used a shorter boil, and a longer dry time before PC, as well as leaving about half the grains in the still hot pot to dry out even more. dry vs wet weight indicated about 60% added hydration (not the real numbers but for instance 160g wet to 100g dry) It worked much better than my other method, where I accidentally dumped about 60 ml or so right in to a jar of grains that had been sitting around a while drying out.

with both I was scared at first by the pool of LC at the bottom but a good shake, letting it settle again, and then one more shake did the trick.

How many mls did you end up pouring?  That’s exactly what I’m gonna try, pouring off as much as I can first. I dropped a wedge three days ago and it’s just now starting to visibly take off. I’m just trying to see if it could save enough time getting to spawn to be worth doing more often.

I assume it ran the jar in a few days?

both my LC test plates came up clean, so yesterday I took the remainder of the LC, decanted most of the liquid off the top, and dumped about 15 ml of nicely developed snot balls of liquid myc on to two new jars, one for each LC. then I took a sample from the remainder and observed it under the scope just to verify it was still clean.

that was 1/9. I spawned it to a shoebox 1/13.

the other LC was...not clean. I let the jar hang around for a while and really consolidate and cased it to top fruit the other day

I always put a magnetic stir bar in my LC jars so I can break up the myc clumps and then let them settle again for a few hours. each time they start forming more numerous and larger myc balls. they were noc'd 1/5, poured 1/9.

That’s awesome exactly what I’m trying to do here. And only 15 ml too?? Sounds good.

This is my first lc with a wedge, it looks like a little triangle inside and ice cube now from the myc growing out.

I’ve been shaking it real hard trying to dislodge some and seems to be working. It’s crazy how fast it goes once it gets started it’s like every few hours the myc particles look bigger.

yeah it's really cool how fast it goes. The first day I alternated the jars on the stir plate pretty much constantly, switching them whenever I happened to be near the plate. next time I'll let them grow out a bit more and on day 2 start more regular agitation. I haven't done a wedge, but for this one since I was going for speed I used the josex poke method as a starting point (basically used it for the myc-> LC ejection system) and scooped a nice rhizo strand of myc directly off the plate and shot it in to the LC.

Just making up a whiskey bottle load of LC for Allenii spawn.  I reccon this will be the bomb for wood lovers as it doesnt matter so much if there is contaminants in there.

Is this SOP? I did this, but it feels wasteful. I'm going to get a stirplate to hopefully avoid this in the future. I swirled hard towards the end but it wasn't enough to break up the myc at that point, and i didn't want to shake it as if it were a grain jar.

I’m new to lc I just want to pour all the myc without drowning the grains.

If you leave it most of it settles on the bottom. When you shake it air gets in and makes it float for a while.

If you’re pouring LC and want it thicker, feed it a better nutrition source and let it colonize more.
