This is interesting news about Buttigieg:

Buttigieg's Small-Dollar Contest Seen as 'Cynical Ploy' to Lower Average Donation Amount
Quote:
Facing sustained criticism from rival Democratic presidential hopefuls over his ritzy wine cave fundraiser and billionaire contributors, Pete Buttigieg's 2020 campaign this week launched a "contest" to see which supporter can give the candidate the smallest unique donation—a competition that's conveniently timed just ahead of the fourth-quarter filing deadline.

Critics condemned it as a gimmick that appears designed to lower the mayor's average donation for the final quarter of the year and create the impression of a genuine surge in grassroots enthusiasm.

"Instead of just ending private fundraisers with wealthy donors and refusing to accept donations from billionaires, Pete's campaign rolled out this cynical ploy to skew the average donation amount by flooding the pool with mass donations of a few pennies," tweeted progressive activist Jordan Uhl. "What a fucking joke."

In a Christmas Eve email to supporters, the "Pete for America Innovation Team" explained the contest:

All you have to do to win is donate the smallest amount that nobody else donates. In other words, suppose you donate $1.00. If someone else playing also donated exactly $1, you both lose. We'll see if only one player donated $1.01, and so on until we find an amount donated exactly once, and that's our winner.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Pete's whole campaign seems like a gimmick. What platform is he running on? Seems like it's "I'm the young Joe Biden with less of a record to be used against me."

New Morning Consult poll shows Bernie as the top 2nd choice of the other two top candidates:

@qman when you asked why Bernie isn’t more aggressive on the debate stage, this is why. Right now being the guy with the right ideas and not shutting on everyone else for being wrong is working for him. As Warren and Biden continue to sink (for multiple reasons), the largest share of their support is going to Bernie.

How do we know these polls are real? Do Biden supporters actually exist? Where are they? Maybe we should just kick whatever state they live in out of the country.

i missed this.  i graduated from a state school.  MTSU, if you really want to get personal.  sure, it's nothing special (except for their Aerospace program, among the top 10 in the US, and Communications/Recording Industry program which is recognized worldwide.)  but the point is, you don't have to be smart to graduate with honors, you just have to understand how to pass tests and present quality material outside of tests.  a little application and elbow grease makes it pretty damn easy.

i had a friend that slept with two of her professors for A's.  if she had really whored it up, she probably could've graduated with honors, too

More indications that the politics of Bernie Sanders is desperately required.

the richer they were at the start of the year, the richer they got. The world’s 500 wealthiest people tracked by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index added $1.2 trillion,

That amount up there, 1.2 tril for 500 people over a year, works out to 1 bil a month.

You would have to WORK for 12,500 years full time to make 1 bil if you're earning $40/hour.  Maybe 250 lifetimes worth of labour to get what these guys get from owning and usury in a month.  Neither of which are actions.  Work is an action.  Getting returns on investment is not.

You gonna vote for someone who thinks that's a good thing or pretends it's not an issue?

I'm sick and tired of being given a bad deal every single day of my life so these pricks can pad their ass beyond all reason, and buy the government.  This class is sucking up far, far too much of society's resources.

We don't need these people.  They are counter productive to our goals.  Get rid of this fucking class of spoiled brats with an infinite sense of entitlement.  Tell 'em to get a real job.  There's a lot of things that need fixing and it would be nice if everyone lent a hand.

Here, have a look at this.  Instead of having a proper society where problems get solved and things that need getting taken care of get taken care of, we have one where significant amounts of people go without, so that some asshole can have something like this.

I could rant some more.  A lot more, but I think I made my point.

You've got things mixed up. I didn't say grades determine intellect and skill. I said you graduating cum laude doesn't give you the perspective to say that AOC's cum laude wasn't much of an accomplishment unless you came from an equal or better school. Boston U is ranked #40. Middle Tennessee State University is ranked #293-381 by U.S. News and World Reports. I'm not saying it's a bad school. My brother in law went there and he makes good money. But they are not comparable.

Some people don't understand that universal healthcare is universal healthcare. There is no patchwork system that can accomplish that goal. If the wealthy want to buy something else for themselves in addition they can, but there is no way the system can work if people can opt out. We understand that some are against this, but the minority needs to be overruled.

As I mentioned earlier the higher wage unions are going to be a problem. If Bernie gets the nomination they will surely vote for him over a unionbusting Republican, but they probably work against him in the primaries. They already have high wages and good medical insurance. My guess is they will support Biden.

I'm in a higher wage union. They asked us to vote for Hillary at a union meeting last election. None of them want Bernie to win because they believe we'll be the ones being negatively effected by universal healthcare and free college. They would rather see trump win before Bernie. It's not normally like that because we usually vote for someone on the left. So yeah the higher paid unions are against Bernie 100%. A lot of the people in the higher paid trades strongly believe in the 2nd amendment so that's also going to hurt Bernie. The higher paid Unions vote left unless it's the radical left. They'll vote for a Republican before the far/radical left...

Yeah I’m sure union members are rejecting the best labor candidate in a century, one who wants to end right to work laws and enact card check, all because of some bullshit talking point the Biden camp cooked up like 3 months ago.

No siree nobody would ever concern troll about Sanders on the internet.

I believe high wage union workers will support Biden because they already have what Bernie wants to give to other people. They already have a monopoly on the building trades in the rust belt. Right to work laws have no effect on them. There is a mile long waiting list to get into these unions. They make great money and have great health insurance.

Bernie will get most of the support of the lower and medium wage unions. He's already got the nurses.

Bernie's M4A bill has provisions to convert negotiated health insurance benefits back to wages.  That's what they were to begin with, deferred wages.

This is clearly an impasse.  Maybe GPA's meant something in your day, but it is simply not true today.  Kind of like how a Bachelor's meant something 30+ years ago and now means basically nothing; even a Master's holds little weight in many fields.

My stance is not going to change, and clearly yours is not either.  Probably best we go our separate ways on this matter.
