Re: Does anybody running unmodded tubs go BIG? I can't find a single example. (double digit tubs) [Re: Funky Monkey]
    #26144692 -

Pics/convo/advice/whatever

If people are doing big grows of unmodded tubs (pics being the usual way to demonstrate they are) then I am interested in finding out who, and to find out their reasoning.

Just opening up a friendly dialogue so that I might consider things I haven't thought of up to this point.

Modded, or unmodded managing lots of tubs is a different beast than a handful of tubs.

TheAtlantean runs 70 tubs at once. Has a tek. Looks hellish to maintain. Good luck.

Biggest I ever went was 16 shoeboxes... I quickly decided against doing that again.

Unmodded tubs get more FAE than traditional monos. I base this off of air currents and evaporation rates when was experimenting with whether a unmod could work well. Basically like removing all poly/tape from the top holes.

I had an idea of using a heating pad to generate more current going upwards and out the top holes with the top holes open...

Yes it is. With unmodded tubs(sterlite) you need spacers of sorts for the lids otherwise the bottom tubs will suffer. You'll want a fan in the room modded or unmodded but not pointing at the tubs. I had a ceiling fan when I did them. Light was provided by indirect sunlight with a few scattered lights.

Clean spawn is key. Go look at filthyknees thread:shrug:

how

The holes are bigger  and they're open with no tape or poly in them.

When the mushrooms drop spores the spores deposit all around the air gaps by the lids. Big purple streaks if I let a tub sporulate. You tell me how spores deposit around the air gaps in the lid without FAE. The spores uncovered the air currents. Like using smoke in a wind tunnel

There's no spore deposits uncovering what air currents exist in traditional monos because they get less air exchange.

The air gaps in my lid would be like putting 2.5 inch diameter holes in the top of a monotub and leaving them uncovered

Wouldnt the spore load just be more evenly dispersed because there is more even airflow instead of concentrating in 2 places?

Ive done like as many as 20 unmodified monotubs at once and over 30 shoeboxes at once. Stacking either can put enough pressure on lids to diminsh FAE, as stated by others. They also all contribute heat to the grow space so you will need to keep the room cooled adequately. It looks like you know well enough what you're doing so I doubt there's much more we can add here.:smoker:

Well its like 8 places the left and right of all 4 air gaps.
Which means air is entering and exiting the tub fast enough to deposit spores

I've ran 47 shoeboxes at a time, twice. Its a hassle but not really that bad to maintain. Mush dont really need much maintenance.

Next grow I'm gonna do probably 25 shoeboxes and run my first big tubs.

well the heat and humidity is pushing up and out seeping out of the top of the tub
when u run a unmodded tub the tub fills up like a pocket of hot humid stale air is pushing out the top of the lid it pushing not sucking in it doesnt have holes to mix w fresh air being sucked in by the holes through the poly thats how its not allowing a mix w fesh air making the evviorment in the tub a even mix

Air goes out but air can't go in. Check.

But somehow if you stuff holes with poly you do get air currents and fresh ones. Even though the purpose of the poly is literally to keep stale air stuffed inside to maintain humidity while you're gone to keep them low maintenance.

Take a hot shower close the bathroom door and don't turn the vent on.
When you get done isn't it cool how the humid air goes out but no air comes in to replace it because you're operating on dummy physics.

But you know better after doing a grand total of 0 unmodified tubs. And making your grow logs which are quite the impressive sight.

I'm not going to trust your physics guesses when you have trouble spelling words.

What you think is happening is because you don't like them. Not what's really happening

Cool, we'll all wait for your side by side or even one side done well reliably. Then maybe someone will listen to your theories on why tubs that clearly work for a lot of people don't work or something like that.

They only choke from having too dense of a flush all the stems so close together. All those mushrooms make a shitload of surface area evaporating moisture all that it wants to do is homogenize with the outside air because of entropy. So there's constantly air movement

You can put your hand on the canopy and slice the mushrooms at the base and harvest 300-400 grams of mushrooms in one slice. Whole tub harvests in like 2-3 minutes
