Newb - Anyone tried a humidifier with a digital humidistat ?
    #3035651 -

Hi shroomites !

I am definitly new at this. Still planning my room. Plus my native language is not English, sorry for probable language bloopers.

I plan to seal a 4' X 10' shelving space in plastic film. Changing the air will be done with squirrel cage fans and a timer.

Anyone used a humidifier whith built in digital humidistat ? Is it good for the purpose ?

I love this place, tons of info.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply Loki.

It seems I failed to properly express my question. My concern is not about it's capacity.

I am mainly concerned with the range and accuracy of the built in humidistat. Since it's a domestic device, I am not sure it can range up to 99 % of humidity. Also, I am not sure about it's ability to properly maintain the right level in such a confined and small room.

I walked into a hardware store yesterday, and I saw both Honeywell and Bionaire where making cool mist models with digital humidistats for less than 60 $.

I wondered if it was a viable "all-in-one" solution for growing in the required conditions.

They usually only go up to mid 80's for humidity, not so great. I'd suggest just getting a Vicks (almost more like 25 bucks) and running it 24/7. Seems to work great for a few friends of mine. It is a fairly all in one solution as far as humidity and air exchange. Helps drop the temp a bit too because of the fresh air. Just add light

The humistat isn't going to read the inside of the closet inless it's in there which I don't recamend. Use a cool mist to exchange air by running 24/7 and use a ultrasonic every few hours.

This is a Martha Stewert closet and hose set up.

in the box

I use the ultrasonic and cool mist. Very firm believer in air exchange.

In the exectrical Dept of the hardware store I find these. and on the ultrasonic Now on the back of the closet I cut the holes for the hose fittings and put tape over them and cut holes threw the tape for the fittings. The reason for the tape is to give the clostet plastic a little extra strength when holding the hose weight. The outlet for the ultrasonic goes above the cool mist outlet that way the mist from the ultrasonic drops into the airstream of the cool mist and mixes better.

Hi Magash !

Here I dont want to look like a brown noser, butt (pun intended) I really appreciated some of your tutorial threads. I am really glad you contributed to such a wannabee thread. I have already read your Martha tent setup thread, and many others. You almost convinced me using cakes alone with your poor man's pod. I figured it's better suited for some growers. Still, I have some questions about your reply.

Why ?

Air exchange would be dealt with fans and timers. Small oscillating fans inside the fruiting room will theorically prevent condensation to rain down the crops. The humidifier with built in digital humidistat gizmo, would indeed be installed inside the 4X10 tent.

I have one, it only goes up to 85% humidity, but it works great! It was 40 bucks from home depot and has a 4 gallon tank on it. If you are able to cover up the humidistat at all, you can get higher humidity.

Hey Magash, do you ever have problems with rust from the steel frame of the storage closet? If so, what do you do about it?

The metal vents on my Martha rusted...duct tape fixed that

There was some rust inside the frame, but the outside is coated.

Ahh, thats a bad idea. A vic's can get a large rubbermaid tub to 100% rH in about 5min. For casings, thats bad. You'll get fuzzy mycelium and possibly contams. This can also stall pinning. For cakes, its fine.
