possibly using a reptile humidifier/air exchanger?

It would seem to me that reptile humidifiers are designed to keep an enclosed space, a terrarium in other words, humidified, where as ultrasonic humidifiers are designed to humidify small rooms (thus having to be jerry rigged).

I have seen no posts or teks on the use of a Reptile Humidifier anywhere on this site or anywhere and was wondering if anyone has used these, they seem easier to apply and are a hell of a lot cheaper (like a third the price) but I don't know if they keep the humidity in the right range? I also understand you need a simple airpump to attach as well.

If you are it's basically the same as running an air stone bubbler into a jar of water. Thats why it says you need an air pump.

most reptiles only need around 50% RH with usually 70ish being the max RH for even the most tropical reptiles

that's why simply bubbling some water in the terarrium works

if infact you mean something different, like something that pumps the humidity kinda like a jerry rigged humidifier

that MIGHT work, but my personal opinion is that it probably won't be designed to keep your terrarium at 90+%RH

I have used the tropic aire humidifier with good results

it was hooked up to a storage bin, with an air pump

good results, but a bitch to clean the bins!

I have used That exact same humidifier and it was worthless! I spent $40.00 on what I thought was a good Pump. It was worthless! check out my gallery and look at my first Fruiting chamber, you'll see it there looking big and bad but absolutely worthless. That was just my experience with it. Tony above me had a good experience.

Depends what kind of reptile humidifier you get. Some are more than able to keep 90% humidity. Try and find one specifically for poison arrow frogs, you might need to contact some breeders (try kingsnake.com) Reptiles are designed to keep moisture retained in the body, where as amphibians need their skin to be moist so they can breathe. Just look around kingsnake.com, while it is mainly a site for the sale of reptiles (becareful you can get screwed, LLLreptile is pretty good) but it has a section just for equipment such as humidifiers.

The Tropic-aire will keep a 20 gallon sealed space at around 70-75%RH if you run it constantly. Add perlite or expanded clay balls with water as a base and then you get to 95% RH with constant fresh air. I used one for a while with cakes and it's not bad. Put it on a timer so it turns over the air every hour or so, depending on your space.

I think I have a smaller than 20 gallon area in mind. So the tropicaire might work fine, as far as finding a higher quality one, anyone know brands? I think I can find a reptile shop here where I live, and perhaps find a good one but want to know if anyone knows what keeps the highest humidity (say at least good enough for a wet frog)

I'm using one to augment my monotub right now. 2 hour on 2 hour off cycles, seems to stay constant at 99% RH.
