i havn't used them for this purpose, but i would assume you would want to wire a power adjuster on it and/or ideally a thermostat. I also probably wouldn't put the jars directly on it.

My squirrel used to use them on his terraiums. Under, and on the outside kept his fruiting areas nice and cozy on cold winter days.

I used it, it work perfect when you put it on top of 5 collapsed card board boxes. It's about 110-120 without the boxes, but it's a perfect 85 with the boxes.

I have tried. I suggest a buffer to distribute the heat. How much depends on the size of pad. Just remember, the pad is not immersable!

Reptile heating pads have a couple problems that need to be addressed. 1) they are all of the X degrees over ambient type. That means the temperature of your chamber will be directly related to the larger environment in which it is located. If your home varies by 10 degrees between day and night, for example, your reptile heating pad will also change because it is adding the same wattage regardless of outside temp changes. A safety thermostat can be used as a high temp shut-off . But a better (more expensive) option would be a proportional thermostat.... it has a temp sensor that you can place right in with your jars/casings and it will maintain an exact temperature by varying the voltage and usiing feedback from the sensor. Proportional controllers can be found here: https://secure.ioncart.net/beanfarm/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=5&cat=Temperature+Control
2) not all reptile heat pads are waterproof (most are not!) The orange Kane units are suitable to indoor/outdoor use in wet areas (see http://www.beanfarm.com/)
