Haha interesting notion! But Australia / Australasia being refered to as 'down under' comes from the whole southern hemisphere orientation / location, right? You are positioned low on the globe as the perspective is often shown in 'the west'.

The netherlands though is so called because most of it lies under sea-level and is artificially created land using windmills (and now pumps and elaborate delta's and waterworks). This is also why most of it is very flat (farmland).

Anyway sorry for the tangent. This is about you guys.

I would be interested to see some more hunted P. aucklandii pics, I'm curious. Is it the time of the year for all those known NZ actives?

Acquiring weraroa seems to be a challenge for multiple reasons, especially workable samples. I hope i am getting some nice help with it now, seemed like it.

(If my English was mangled before I was probably drunk.)

    This is correct. You should start your own thread and get ID there. If people come into this thread and see those mushrooms and compare them to what they have, then they end up eating inactive, potentially poisonous mushrooms.

    Moreover, if I may indulge a little frivolous over extrapolation...

    While much of the Netherlands geography has altitude beneath sea level, some geography is to some extent "man made". For example Zeeland in the south-west area the land is new: - ((how do you say? rescued? liberated? conquered? claimed? corralled? excised? buoyed? aha!)) - CLEAVED from the smothering weight of the almighty oceans possession!!!

    Local folk lore down these ways encapsulates an interesting natural history reference - in the story of Maui fishing up Te Ika a Maui (the North Island, which is volanic, bubbled up from the ocean floor along the ring of fire fault line. in contrast, the South Island, the Waka (canoe) Maui used to fish his islands up with - is almost completely bereft of volcanic activity, with the exception of one extinct volcano close to the southern most tip)

    Kawai is a Japanese brand...  in Japanese kawaii means cute.... but its a different word... perhaps their brand name is kind of a 'play on words' in Japanese?
    In Maori kāwai means a growing shoot, or a tentacle... but i dont think its related to your piano...

    It's just been way too dry for mush activity. We've had a little bit of rain in Dunedin though and seems like more is due, so hopefully this weekend will be a good hunt :smile:

    It was quite worthwhile. Found some freakin' meaty monster big daddies. Alot of those which had stalled mid flush have resumed. albeit stunted, which you can tell when they have flat caps and disproportionately short thick mighty trunks, that they've been held back from reaching their full potential. still, most of them are healthy, unscathed with only a few cracked or bruised from harsh cold/dry

    less plentiful in general, but that is to be expected around now

    To actually make it about mushrooms: it seems that i feel confident i have prospect at my holy grail Ps. weraroa (in a little while) (seems they forgot to schedule it here!).. :laugh: really excited. If i grow it in my garden and go hunting for mushrooms in my garden, does that count? Cause then i can legit join in with you guys. :wink:
    I can also move to Zealand, grow some there, and we can pretend the word NEW in the thread title refers to 'new thread'.

    Getting colder smaller and drier.

    Found 48 this eve, all drying and small.

    Decided to do a slurry experiment on pine . . . Will open in 30 days and see what happened . . .

    Where does everyone migrate to for the spring/summer? Dmt-nexus.me :grin:??

    I found a few this season but the last couple of weeks, it seems that some has hit the patches hard, i.e there are chunks of bark on the footpath as if some one has been scooping out mushrooms and mycellium.
