After years of Shroomery lurking in the darkness as shrooms do, I'm finally posting my first post!

This is only my second season here in NZ and it's been a good one finding 4 types so far. Working my way down the list of NZ species but its not so easy. 

Been picking all over the North island the past months and still to find Weraroa and Aucklandii.

Currently in Auckland in search of the elusive mushroom

Will be interesting in 10yrs time to see if my home/manicured patch survives better than a public raped one. Might be that abuse improves things, though I don't reckon. . .

So I picked some too early? I’m kind of answering my own question for some of them where I can see the cap has just detached. I’ll read up again and make sure I’m picking at the right point

Long time lurker, second time posting. Recent find in Auckland, very public spot so it was rather intense picking them

I have since dried, ground and capped them.

Rogertheretard I was wondering if you were ģonna post yer finds this season..  Thats a big beautiful pile of nice big subs. :cool:
JustAMushroom .. nice frosty patch there!
... I have attached a vid of an ice-capped fruit, found last week.

Here's a shot from a small harvest this week:


I dry my shrooms on paper for couple of days,  collecting spores until they are crispy dry; then they go in a dessicator tub for another couple days until they are cracker dry. 

It works fine for me; i still have nice dry shrooms from last year's harvest. (Stored in jars with desiccant packs)

Regarding some of the comments/questions about pins, I have seen a few new flushes which consist of mostly tiny pins with the odd matured single mushie. I cut the ones I am taking with a small pair of scissors and then search around for dried grass and gorse to cover the pins up with, I have just started taking photos of the hidden flush and the terrain horizon to the rear of the patch as I have been having trouble re-finding some patches. I might not be finding some of them again because someone else has.

The area I search has definitely started re-fruiting although generally not from the same patch, the area is always somewhat off from where I last got them. I took the risk of getting some from a traffic roundabout in broad daylight but it was worth it. Better than doing what I did last year, dressing like a ninja and going there at night and trying to feel the bloody things in the dark while lying down in some very wet vegetation with huge trucks whistling past me at speed.

Weraroa are still popping in Welly. Didn't pick any today, just a nice bush walk hunting them for the joy.

Nice! I went for a Weraroa hunt yesterday and all I got was soaked and frozen. I really dont know if anyone has ever found Weraroa around here. There were quite a lot of fungi in the bush. Do you typically see any other species of mushrooms near where you find weraroa?

Yeah aside from the weraroa there was heaps of coral fungus, bolettes and some amanita. There was some neon purple coral fungus that was super stunning to look at.

Yes! Seems maybe a break for me in someday culturing weraroa..

It's weird to fully imagine you guys have winter now, it is a little like you are the bizarro world of the Netherlands. north can look alike, and we actually have the "Old Zealand"...

Are boletes and amanitas invasive to you? or do you have your own styles of em?

What does kawaii mean? My piano is a Kawai.

    Yes when I think too hard about it New Zealand does seem to be quite a strange name for this country. I think Kawai is Japanese. You have a very extensive trade list Solipsis. So did someone hunt you up a new Weraroa swab or gill fragments?
