Not active ones that I'm aware of.
I've seen Ps. montana and
Ps. physaloides. on the Kenai penninsula in august.
And of course Amanitas by the truck load in sept.
Lots of good edibles are abundant if your into that.

High DOctor Dung,

The only recorded species of psilocybian fungi found in Alaska is Panaeolus subbalteatus.

The pap0er on its occurrence in Alaska is as follows:

Miller, O. K., G. Laursen and D. F. Farr. 1982. Notes on Agariclaes from Arctic Tundra in Alaska. Mycologia Vol. 74:576-591.

It is possible that Psilocybe cyanescens could be in Alaska but no one yet has reported it.

Psylosymon,

Psilocybe montana and Psilocybe physloides are not psilocybian mushrooms as Doctor Dung has already noted.

Since I know at least 7 people who live in Alaska and Do shrooms, they have been looking for them for years and never found any. BTW, these are people who have picked shrooms in both Oregon and Washington for many years. SO they would have eventually found some in Alaska. And then again this does not mean that they aren't there but if they are they are extremely rare and very uncommon.

And Amanita muscaria of course is a lot different than Psilocybe species.

What we do know is thyat there are more than 40 species of Psilocybin mushrooms in the USA in thirty states. This is from thirty years of experinece.

Also, Many colleges in Alsaka have mnycology departments or Botany deparments with mycology classes, as do most big colleges and Universities. They also have no knowledge of these shrooms in Alaska and they would have known, just like Singer and Smith in the late 1950s when they wrote the first monograph describing the known species of Psilocybe mushrooms which contained psilocybin.

If you were a botany student in 1960, you most likely were awarre of the 10 or 11 species which were commonn in the Pugert Sound area at the Time. Singer and Smith also recorded the liberty cap from here in the late 1940s but did not publish the info because the species was already recorded in European journals.

Just out of curiosity, what are those thirty states? I live in Colorado, and the chances of finding and wild ones seems pretty low.

Hi,

sorry thats a lot of typing to do.

Most of these states and other locations are in a thread in this forum. Go back a ways in the go back button and find What State and Country have Psilocybian mushrooms. Its a big thread.

Mj

Conocybe cyanopus is definatelin Colorado, yet it is exttreemely rare and takes about 1/3 ounce of fresh mushrooms which would be about 75 shrooms. They are very small. Usually a from two to a couple hundred or so appear in any given location. I have oinly found them three times in a twenty-five year period.

There are also some species of Gymnopilus in Colorado, these are very bitter and take a large amount. It is hard to take the taste.
