Does anyone know if there are shrooms to be found in Alaska? And if so what area of AK would be the best spot to try? Also during what part of the year?

Well according to "Mapping the Mycelial Network" : Alaska Amanita muscaria Psilocybe cyanescens Wakefield. (Guzma?n, 1983; Stamets, 1996). Panaeolus ater (Lange) K?hner & Romagnesi. (Pollock, 1976). Panaeolus subbalteatus Berkeley & Broome. (Miller et al., 1982). I would assume that summer would be the best time to find them...maybe spring....dunno much about alaska wheather....whenever its not really cold i would imagine the mushrooms would try and fruit to survive the harsher climate...but i really cant say for sure.....

I would also try for Psilocybe pelliculosa, and/or other possible psychoactive mushrooms growing in similar habitats as P. pelliculosa. Also, look in lawns, or pastures for other mushrooms like Psilocybe semilanceata. Keep shroomin inalaska!, GG

If I were you, I'd check out the woods around wasilla or anchorage. Lots of wood chips and mossy wet land out there...

Hello sill_o_cin, Well the wizard is great as usual, and he has updated his website with a new "Gift Shop" =:) As for shrooms fields in the asarasota area; 1.) One next to the Wal-Mart parking lot, on Cattlemen Rd. 2.) One next to the Taco-Bell, on Fruitville Rd. 3.) One next to the Outback-Steakhouse, on University Parkway. 4.) One next to Normans-Liquor, on Clark Rd. Keep shroomin, GG

Howdy Sill o cin- I've done a bit of hunting around Alaska the past few years, here's what I've found. In the Interior (Fairbanks, Denali, etc) the psilocybes you'll probably find are a lot of weak Paneolus varieties, mostly unidentified. Could be some powerful little guys in that mystery group, who knows. P. Stuntzii and P. Cyanescens have been identified in the more temperate coastal parts of Alaska... growing on horse shit, wood chips and whatnot, but I've never seen that with my own eyes (yet). Mostly what really populates Alaska in DROVES is A. Muscaria. Anchorage sees em around late July if it's been a wet summer. Up in Fairbanks, there's literally fields of Muscaria in late August until frost comes. Look in the birch/aspen woods... They don't seem to dig spruce stands too much. Hope this is of use, my friend. Jah love, methus

Hey GGreatOne, Thanks for the tips, I've been to the one behind the Outback Steakhouse with no success. But, that is because it was March when I was hunting. NO rain no shrooms right. Later
