What brand of power tools do you use to build your laminar flow hood?

Personally I use milwaukee but I'd like to hear others opinions on brands

I personally like RIGID because of the lifetime warranties.

I personally like DEWALT and that is what I used to build my 1st flow hood. But why build one when you can buy a fan filter unit already built for cheaper. There plug and play. some you will have to put a pre-filter on. Mine already had a pre-filter...

Hobbyist mechanic and woodworker checking in. I spent the cash on Milkwaukee M20 Fuels, easily my favorite purchase. The 5.0 batteries last a long time, 9.0s are ridic. 5.0 is good for the drill and hex impact, 9.0 is necessary for 1/2" impact, sawzall, and circ saw. The standing light lasts 4-5 hours on a 5.0. They do have 12.0s available, but those are so huge they are unnecessary for me. Anyone using them all day would want em!

Milwaukee 12v drills/drivers are good stuff. Pocket holes are the greatest thing ever for flowhood builds, so I highly recommend a Kreg pocket hole jig and screws. Worm drive type corded saw like old fashioned Skil or other brands are good to cut.

For building a hood you could use harbor freight tools. It's just one job lol. For routinely working that's different.

Milwaukee and Bosch are most of my tools.

Always goes like this job site drill is old shit. Your dad's got a 36v brushless drill that cost 499 and gets used once a year because he needs that reliability and doesn't want shit lol.

It is my understanding that those fan filter units will not achieve laminar flow due to the lack of a pressurized plenum. I have not worked with one and tested it out but i can absolutely see how LAMINAR flow is very beneficial in this hobby. I'll gladly explain my thinking more if ya'll desire but I'd go with a legit flow hood over one of those units.

I like dewalt tools but, as bodhi said, it really doesn't matter. You are just building a hood. If you're asking for advise on what tools to go and buy.... that's another story.

If you don't plan on using them again just do harbor freight. Go return them bitches when ur done.

If you don't use tools anit no body got room for that.

I got two and they do produce laminar flow. I tested it with smoke to make sure. I really can't tell you if all of them do laminar flow. The ones I got if bought new were $1500 each I got them new in the box for $70 each from HGRINC.com. Their is a video on youtube also showing this type of fan filter unit producing laminar flow.

Mine produces excellent laminar flow over the entire surface of the filter, the original plenum was discarded and a new one constructed from wood for reasons that would take me too long to explain here but the dimensions are the same as the original plenum and a hood was constructed for the work space, I believe the elaborate baffle system employed by these fan filter units is essential for proper laminar flow.
I can vouch for them, if set up properly they work perfectly.

I no you said its too long..... But could you elaborate I've been looking to getting one but I don't know why you'd need to re contruct it.

Im guessing it wasn't necessary to make it work it was necessary for some other reason. Others use them as is and report success

Didn't tell me there was another post so I'mma double post.

From my understanding is that I would need a basic frame to hold the unit up properly but other than that :shrug: seems it should work just fine as is.

Another option would be to order all the parts, measure it out and design what you need on paper.  Then hit a hardware store and have them cut everything per your measurements, this way all you might need is a drill and screws or a hammer and finish nails.  Add caulking to the list and you should be good to go.
