Well, all my cheap, grocery store bought plastic lids have warped on me (ball and mainstays brands). Not to the point to where I am getting contams as a result. More so that they are a huge PITA to get loosened up after they go through the sterilizer.
My alcohol soaked gloved hands have all to often slipped off of the closures and into the flowhood's HEPA more times than I want to talk about. Can't be having no slip action into the HEPA when I build the new flowhood. These new lids have ridges in a tight pattern all the way around the lid for better gripping-action, as well.
I sterilize at slightly higher than average psi's though, and is most likely the reason cheap lids warp on me. The ones myco/agar/mycota/6Tango sent me haven't warped at all out of all the five years I have owned them. That tells me something loud and clear.

Well the autoclave lids Ive seen for pretty fair price around from various cultivation supply sites, box of 100 close to 30 bux, more expensive than the grocery store type but fair enough I say since Im going qt-spawn bag I doubt Ill be using more than 100 grain masters at any one time in my small house
Can dream though!
I tottally get you Loaf, oh man trying to loosen lids with ISO slathered gloves? Ugh Ive smacked into the hood more times than I like to admit. My Hepa is in great shape regardless, youd never know it because I have an Awl that works pretty well at rounding out the pins.
Of course a real hard smack and I dont think Id be able to undo that damage haha I wonder, is there some sort of protective cage you put on that wouldnt disrupt flow?
Loaf- cant wait to see you build that big boy man ohhh its gunna be sweet !

I always just rub my hands together until the iso alcohol is pretty much dried away... Never have any problems with contam. I don't even use it that much.
I think there is a lot more paranoia around being clenly and getting contams than there needs be... I'm actually quite sloppy sometimes when it comes to myself being clean; but, I find as long as your movement tequniques in the SAB/flowhood are fairly good and your media/spawn is properly sterilized/clean contams will rarely come about. Unless you just wiped your arse after taking a dump and don't wear gloves at all, you should be fine. IME, I find no need to be overkill with sterility.

The caps to the vials seal like a champ.
Be sure to loosen the caps for sterilization. Once inoculated, I like to wrap the seal where the cap meets the threads with parafilm for added security.

Why do you need the ship's on that? You planning on using them as slants or what?

Gonna try them out as slants, yes. If they don't work out, then back up slants are had. Also, if these don't work out as slants for me, then I got a great deal on 100 - 1/2 inch, red injection ports. Those red SHIP's run 85 - 99 cents a piece when purchased on their own. Each sold separately.

ham, I found an awesome deal on amazon for 50ml plastic tubes I'm using for slants now. non tapered opening makes going in an out really easy w/o bumping the walls of the slant with stem of the tool, which may or may not have been flame sterilized red hot
increased volume enables more pulls from each slant, in addition to longer storage potential
and they also have "skirts" so u can stand them upright w/o a rack if necessary.
i was using 25 ml glass tubes previously its $11/50 50ml tubes, caps included.
here currently unavailable...but they usually come back in a month or so.

ive stored agar cultures in liquid form and even tissue in those. they work great. you can later use a sterile syringe to suck them back up for a quick inoculation. i recently put a liquid culture oyster syringe on agar from 2007. it colonized in 3 days from one drop of the syringe. not too bad for 8 years ago.
pearl and blue. i am making more plates to transfer as we speak. in addition, i inoculated a bunch of prints from 2003 that all germinated. awaiting a transfer now!
