Thank you both for your arguments, gentlemen.  I'll now take some time to consider them before coming to my decision.

This court acknowledges that the piece from RT clearly has a russo-centric bias.  That being said the very concept of nearness requires context and scale.  If you google the nearest star to the sun, you'll likely come up with Proxima Centauri as your answer.  On the sorts of scales that humans normally interact, that would hardly be considered near, but on a cosmic scale 4.2 light-years is actually quite close indeed.  Likewise, on a global military scale, 1000 miles is a reasonably short distance for an unopposed mechanized force to traverse in good time.  For that reason, this court rules that the specific language in question, namely:
Quote:
Heavily-armed NATO troops are firing their weapons near Norway's border with Russia.

is not objectively false and that therefore the segment in question is not, in fact, fake news

As an aside, I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of views this thread has, given the limited number of posters.

Thank you!

I do think "near" truly depends ones point of view.  Were we near from an American perspective?  Not really.  Were we near from a Russian perspective?  Of course.

If Russia were having military excercises in Cabo, I'm sure America would argue that's too close from an Amercian-centric perspective.

Thank you for taking this seriously.

While the thread is open, others are certainly welcome to weight in with their thoughts.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

It took a round before we got the rules right, but we're definitely pretty close now I think.

While we're waiting, here's another John Oliver lie for the que:

Starting at around 0:45, John Oliver says "...it's also worth noting this (MH17 shoot down) wouldn't have happened if you, Vladimir Putin, hadn't given the rebels those fucking missiles."

There is, in fact, no convincing evidence that Putin gave missiles to the rebels.  The serial number of the missile in question showed it was one transported to Ukraine in 1986.  Even if the missile did fall into the hands of East Ukrainian Defense Forces (which is another debate), that's still not Putin giving the rebels those fucking missiles.

John Oliver was pretty easy to figure out.  I actually like the guy, but anything that the establishment lies about, he'll lie about as well.

Edit:  If that weren't the case, HBO (a subsidiary of AT&T) would've hired someone else to do the show.  The same goes for Bill Maher.

Since Enlil is busy, I propose we open this game up to anyone that can find fake news on RT.com.

After all, for me this game isn't about winning or losing; I don't care if I lose.  For me, it's all about determining whether or not RT is as reliable a news source as US mainstream media.

Any takers?  Can anyone find fake news from RT America from the last 5 years?

We'll use the same rules that are in the OP.

The question you have to ask yourselves is whether people like Ed Schultz, Larry King, and Lee Camp joined RT to become Russian agents, or because RT was the only major media outlet that allowed them to express their non-establishment feelings for issues like support of Bernie Sanders, taxing the rich more, etc.

If it was fake news, you should Google it and post it!
