Contams & weak mushrooms

When I first started shoeboxes I used ms>grain and grew them out(while the grain jars were colonizing I learned agar). Anyway.. I did have some decent trips off of some of my mushrooms. I'm more than sure the spawn was somewhat bacterial though and as I tried to get more flushes the mushrooms were just growing a lot of side pins/bottom pins. They weren't growing to full maturity. But I harvested them all anyway. A lot of them were pretty small but in my head I had a shit ton of them so it didn't bother me..

But my question is.. can a contam sub produce weak mushrooms? There was no trich or anything.. but the mushrooms that were growing just weren't right. I h as d one shoebox perform extremely well under the same conditions. I spawned a clone from the good shoebox about two weeks ago so I hope that goes well.

But damn.. I ate 4.5g over this weekend and all I had was restlessness & a head high with no visuals. Not even a body high. Everything looks clear.. but absolutely nothing more than that. Highly disappointed. Espically for 4.5g.

Anyway. Was just wondering. I know ms genetics are a crapshoot.. but I used several different mushrooms and made tea with them. I for sure as hell should have had something way more than that. I'm assuming the boxes were contaminated but they were producing.. and that's all I wanted.

Any input on this would be awesome. Because I have a shit ton but they're all from these subs that didnt produce well.

No contams don't seem to affect potency. I've had tons of shrooms blow me away that came off of some horrific substrates. Sounds like an MS luck of the draw. Guarantee there's mushrooms in there that will perform better. Unfortunately it's purely luck of he draw.

Yea, I've had some very strong shrooms come off ugly nasty substrate. But new growers often report bunk potency. Often times that comes down to them not being dry(weighing inaccuracies) or shit drying all together. But maybe it does have something to do with contamination.

They're only like 10 days old. I dried them 160f for 6 hours in my dehydrator. Completely cracked dry. Just crumbles with a pinch.

A lot of them were smaller so they were dry about 4 hours in. But I let it run for another two just for reassurance.

I'm hoping theres some good ones in here. I figured the activities should be fine even with them being smaller as long as I eat (x) amount I should get the same as two big fruits curmbeled or whatever.

Just very annoying. Underdosing is almost as bad as taking too much in a sense lol. But I'm not going to take like 6g of these mushrooms and have a big ass trip if they're potent because I'm working on taking them myself. I am now prepped for the 4.5g alone but need the full experience of a 4.5g trip alone in my room, before I up the dose.

I was thinking maybe next time because this was extremely bunk and underdosing absolutely sucks, that I would make a 10g tea.. and just sip until I know the sweet spot.

I'm not sure how well that works though. Are you able to drink half and then another half an hour in? I've heard that just makes the trip 'longer' than more intense. Unsure. But definitely dont want to under dose again.. nor take too much lol.

Iv made tea before with like 20 + dry grams and Im pretty sure it oxidised to much with to much heat and the effects were nothing what they should have been.

Alot of ppl say its really hard to spoil a tea by applying to much heat, But iv def dont it by accident and i didnt even bring it to a boil. Just had a mild heat on the stove while stirring , not even boiling or even simmering.

So maybe it could have been how you prepared your tea? just a thought.

I've made tea several times with no problems. But, this is the first time I have made tea with already dry shrooms. When i make my teas... I usually always use fresh fruit. But not this time. I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I've boiled fruits for 20 minutes to reduce volume. Wasnt a problem at all.

That's why your 20+ gram tea was subpar. You didnt make tea. Sounds like you didnt steep either:shrug:

It was steeped / simmered for like 20 - 30 min on the stove on low. ( not rolling boil )

I would assume thats enough to extract the actives into the water.... I dont know though. I dont usually make teas and im not super experienced with teas.

So you NEED to boil it to get the extraction into the water then?

well..

1. why boil for 30min? you can use a quick 5-10min boil and drink it hot, or do a 20min boil and reduce/top off with cold water then drink.

Personally I would powder all the mush, boil it all for 30 min and then steep till cool enough to handle. Strain through mesh then again through coffee filters until clear. Once you have this solution, use it to make your preferred gummy treat. I just realized I have gummy bear molds lol. If you want sour gummies add citric acid.
