Gun crime data?

Why be difficult?

You know the graphs are horrendous.

why would I care whether I kill myself with a rope or a gun?  dead is dead.  likewise, what difference does the murder weapon make?  I don't understand why you insist on separating gun crimes from other violent crimes.

Ok, don't answer it.:wonka:

Id like to see a crazed lunatic take out 50 people with a rope a knife or even both.

There is clearly a distinction between guns and other forms of household items.
The armed forces don't run around with ropes or stick knives on top of tanks.....maybe you should ask them.

Your personal want for guns is clouding your impartiality... in equal measure to my dislike for them.

I can admit my bias can you admit yours?

It's a fucking huge problem in NZ though! They had another one in 1997!

They're going to nip it in the bud!

This one mass shooting will double the average homicide rate in NZ.

Eh, it seems like most New Zealanders want it to happen. If it makes em feel safer and they decide it's what they wanna do, then hey. It is what it is. Certainly wont make the homicide rate go up, at least. Worked for Australia. New Zealand is even smaller. Will probably work out well enough.

Really? Gun crimes are far more deadly. Suicide attempts with guns are vastly more successful than any other method.

Guns are uniquely effective weapons. They don’t require a lot of training to use. They don’t require physical strength. They don’t require close physical contact. There’s are reason they are singled out in the second amendment. I think it’s somewhat disingenuous to argue it doesn’t matter how you are killed. Sure if you die, it doesn’t matter. What matters is a gun is more likely to kill you than other weapons.

Don't worry I wouldn't expect them to pay much attention to what you say, I'm just after your opinion.

I believe that's why your here after all.

Thanks to the gun buy back in Aus I've never had to worry about being shot walking down the street ever, it's never been a problem.
People don't even discuss not owning a gun, it's a non issue.
Banning assault rifles as well as strict gun control/licensing has proven to be a good thing.

Lever action and bolt action guns are still available if you're an amateur hunter. Hand guns can be used at gun clubs.

Farmers, professional shooters can still access semi auto's and pump action shot guns, that makes sense especially if you're in the business of destroying pigs.

How the U.S. will ever move forward on this is beyond me?
There are too many crims with guns, which leads to honest people wanting to keep their guns.
Not sure what the answer is there?

Also, I recall friends handing in guns in poor condition and making good money from the buy back.

NZ and Australia have massacres and then immediately take action they are small and not very gun saturated to begin with so it’s easy to dry up the supply. It works in those places ,totally different beast here.

Curious how this affects future shootings in NZ. Will it be more common or less? Hopefully less but with the black markets, u never know

I lurk around on one of the more popular nut job wacko gun sites and there are a fair amount of NZ folks on there (who had to use VPN's to log in because their country banned the site from the internet for a short time) and there aren't many of them that are going to turn in their guns.

Law abiding gun owners

That. Anti-immigration people love to make the argument that undocumented aliens are criminals by definition. So is anyone who doesn't turn in their guns when required.

Whenever anyone, including my friends, are saying "They'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands", I'm like OK, either way is fine with me.

I never really liked these "all or nothing" arguments. It just doesn't reflect reality. Real life isn't all or nothing like that. "Why not just ban everything that could possibly be used to injure someone?" is not a good argument against banning something specifically designed to kill people as quickly and easily as possible lol. Idk I mean that's like the government banning black tar heroin and going "oh wow whats next, coffee?". It just isn't really a good point.

I was surprised those assault type weapons were even legal in the first place. New Zealand has a lot of guns. Something like 1 gun per 3 residents. I don’t think the number of guns is as important as the attitude about guns. I doubt New Zealanders think of their guns the way Americans do. They don’t bestow upon them special emotional meaning and status. They don’t act like their guns are the onky thing keeping society from descending into tyranny.

Statistically, no, but Australia barely has any non mass shootings either.
