New Zealand passes smacking bill

So can parents hire somebody to come beat their children for them?

Has anybody else noticed that school shootings were not really a problem until after we took away the right of school officials to paddle naughty children?  Not that anybody ever got spanked... it was the threat that made us behave, at least when I was growing up.  What a messed up world we live in... it is fine to drug our children into submission with amphetamines and murder inducing antidepressants, but not to spank them when they are being bad.  :rolleyes:

if my parents couldn't have slapped me around I would have turned out to be one cocky son of a bitch with a highly egotistical 'nobody can touch me' attitude that would probably get me in trouble sooner or later. if they had to seek 'alternative methods of punishment' I never would have been afraid of punishment and I would have pushed them until the exploded and somebody ended up dead or homeless. in a strange way it even showed that they cared me.

this is the icing on the cake right here. there is such a large margin of error permitted with this grant of power.

Are you kidding me? Law enforcement officers and judges should always be capable of using discretion if they will prosecute or not.

No, theres no such thing as child abuse, its more abusive to not be mean sometimes, if they never learn a lesson and if they dont theres gonna be all these whiny bitchy assholes running around nothing is gonna get done, and if its one thing we dont need more of its whiny assholes

yes there was also a follow up article today with a quote saying child abuse rates in New Zealand are horrendous http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6661823.stm

but I do not know if what they are doing is the best solution
