Rifles are way deadlier than handguns . My 243 will take your leg off at close range . If more people used rifles the annual death toll would much higher .

First, I never claimed you said guns should be banned, I asked it.

Next,
"mass stabbings, and car attacks frequently kill more people than even the deadliest mass shootings"
Would be a true statement if you decided to include "bombings" like my original quote does.

Bombings, mass stabbings, and car attacks.

Do you think that the guns relevant to our topic of discussion kill more in mass shootings than the aforementioned?

The largest mass killing in the last 30 years in Canada was vehicular homicide.
Boston Marathon bombing where 16 people lost limbs.
Do bombs have any reasonable capacity for personal self defense? The same goes for flamethrowers and Claymores. And you think that bombs should be legal?

That is why you have yourself a Red Herring fallacy, a distraction from the argument with sentiment that seems to be relevant but isn’t really on-topic.

That stat ignores the lethality of the weapon. Being shot with a rifle is a lot more lethal than being stabbed. And you can’t stab 450 people in a parking lot 1/2 mile from your 32nd floor hotel room.

Do you think handguns should be banned as well?

Yes. Of course they should be the first to go. The second amendment needs to get filed into the dustbin of history where near Dylan can study it.

Honestly I'm not a huge gun proponent or NRA member lol I mostly came to see whose triggered. There's data that goes both ways.
I agree that it would be nice to severely limit the average psychopaths ability to obtain high powered rifles, but I dont think we're going about it in the right way.
Not to suggest I have a solution to this issue, but when I see statistics saying
"According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, "gun free zones" (areas where guns are prohibited) have been the target of more than 95% of all mass shootings."
I dont see banning all guns as a solution. Sounds more like "sitting ducks" to me lol

I like the idea of background checks, but they're not thorough enough.

I grew up in a third world country and learned to load and shoot handguns before I turned 7. No BS.

I'd rather have a legal concealed carry on me when a mass shooting breaks out, thank ye very much.

Yeah that’s the key detail.

It’s .295 miles. Whatever.

To be fair, I got guns that can kill hella people that were purchased entirely legally without any FFL required. While I for sure wanna keep em, I think mayyyybe that was a bit too easy lol.

Yeah... way more to this than just the surface of "guns illegal, guns get phased out, no one get shot ever". I think it would be more likely to spark a Civil War than anything else lol.

Sorry for the confusion , copy paste fail , the whole statement is bullshit .
2 people died in the Boston marathon bombing , that car thing in Canada killed 10 people . So ya .

That

Of course they do , depends on how you build them . Like I said  if you don’t know anything about them ... just wait until trump loses and the white power revolution breaks out , everyone is going to wish they had bombs .

That’s weird. Such attatchment to an object. Sentimentality is not a rational motive.

No one is arguing that a gun ban will end gun crime. The intent is to reduce it. We spend billions on auto safety, but we still have tens of thousands of deaths. That doesn’t mean these efforts have failed. Without them, hundreds of thousands of people would die. Automobile regulations have saved millions of lives.

Looks like NZ is all full of stupid:

https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/03/22/asia/new-zealand-bans-suspect-manifesto/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F

(CNN) — The possession and distribution of a manifesto believed to be written by the suspect behind the Christchurch mosque attack is now illegal in New Zealand, officials said.
The Office of Film and Literature Classification announced Saturday that the document is objectionable under the law.

The so-called "manifesto" of Brenton Tarrant, the 28-year-old Australian charged with the murders of 50 people, spans more than 80 pages and is filled with anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim screeds.

"There is an important distinction to be made between 'hate speech,' which may be rejected by many right-thinking people, but which is legal to express, and this type of publication, which is deliberately constructed to inspire further murder and terrorism," said New Zealand's Chief Censor David Shanks.

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Which brings the obvious next question:  Is stripping 300 million people of a fundamental right a fair trade for simply a reduction?

In that case, let's get rid of the first amendment, too.  Words hurt more people than guns, so lets outlaw speech.

This issue just makes my brain hurt. Im so fuckin on the fence with gun laws. Both arguments are just so right lol.

America was just founded on the 2nd amendment.. We wouldn't exist if we never had the ability to revolt against tyranny. And that's ingrained in our culture and national identity. It is easy to compare America and the American consciousness to that of a nation who bloodlessly gained 'independence'. But it just is not the same. Takes much longer than a couple hundred years to convince an entire culture "hey guys, I swear we'll be cool, we aint like the last guys. Just give us all your weapons, trust us!". And I don't like the argument of "America has tanks and drones tho, they would win". Like yea I mean no shit, but do you really think the government would be so open to letting the nation devolve into a civil war with armed revolts that are being put down by carpet bombing American cities? I don't see that happening.

Ughhh.... Just lemme keep my MP40 and italian sub-machine guns and Breech-Loaded Rifles and I promise I wont murder anyone. Anything other than that, I mean.. I cant really decide. Im a filthy fence-sitter. Im just her for the conversation

We’ve already done that  a little haven’t we ?  I can see a police officer parked outside across the street in front of my house right now . If I go out there and tell him he needs to move on or I’m going to murder him and his family what will happen to me ? If I go on Facebook and start making post about how me and everyone following me should go shoot up schools what will happen ?
