Contamination or too wet?

Hi, shroomers.
First time growing. Need some wise advice.

These two jars where prepared the same way and inoculated in the same day.
I kept them at average 27ºC (80F) but sometimes it got as high as 30ºC (86F).
I now keep them at room temp.
Is the jar on the right contaminated or is it just too wet? It kinda smells like dirty feet too. If I let it dry out will it recover or I just need to throw it away?

Its most likely contaminated with bacteria. Best to toss it.

The jar on the left is looking good :super:

Looks contaminated yes, smell is a giveaway

Thanks, I`ll toss it.
Why did this happened? Insufficient sterilization or because the temperature and amount of condensation was too high?
If I would have added vermiculite from the start would it be any different?
Also I used pearled barley. I guess thats what its called in english (barley grain with seed coat removed) does that have any impact?

Without details of your sterilisation procedure and inoculation its hard to say, but clearly one of the two, or both. Temps are on the high side, ideal is 65-75, hotter encourages any bacteria present to grow faster

Def don't add verm to grains in jars..The best grains to use are whole Oats or Rye, you need the seed coat on, otherwise it turns to mush, which is likely one of the issues here

Thanks,I dont own a pressure cooker so I steamed the jars in a large pot for 2h. I have BRF cakes from the same batch that are doing fine just slower. It was a last minute decision to even make these grain jars and this barley was the only thing I could find. I just felt like the more different methods I used the more chance I have to not screw it up. 1 out of 8 jars survived, BRF cakes are all doig fine so must be the high temp and mushyness of the barley.

Unfortunately you can;t really sterilise grains without a PC..well you can but at 0psi you need to cook for like 8-10hours, at 15psi they get to 121c and thus are ready in 2 hours
