Sure, if one owns a flowhood.
If not, the pressure cooker is the next best choice, this way the contaminats can settle in the vent and the inside of the pressure cooker, before the air enters the jars.

This thread has been incredibly helpful to me. I'm in exactly the same position - same problems, same set-up, same recent decision to experiment formally without innoculation until the problem is solved. I've gained alot of insight here, so thanks!
