Nah.  I kind of enjoy watching your contempt for me puff up like a little puffer fish whenever I swing by.

One day, there will be no humans.  That's how evolution works. It's not something to worry about.

Can you name a better functioning economic system than capitalism?

Social democracy.

Can you give an example of a social democracy that you feel has worked well?

By what measure is the United States' brand of capitalism functional? We have massive bubbles just waiting to burst, constant boom and bust cycles, our banks are bigger than when they were too big to fail, we spend an obscene amount of money on military adventurism, we have more prisons than any place in the world, terrible mental health, high infant mortality, incredible wealth inequality (and the whole host of problems that leads to), poor education standards, high crime rates, mass incarceration...

The social democracies of the Nordic countries have better healthcare outcomes, lower infant mortality, longer lifespan, less mental illness, better education standards, lower crime rates, and they are more egalitarian.

They also have quite significantly lower rates of poverty.

The fact of the matter is, America has the capability to create a much better social democracy than the Nordic countries do. We have vastly more wealth and resources.

Eh, I call bs.  If you really wanted to learn then you would have at least typed "socially democratic nations" into Google by now.  Then again, who am I to say that a lawyer would take initiative to learn on their own?

Enlil is perfectly familiar with the Social Democracies of the world. He's just trying to make the point that they are failures, in comparison to the United States, which is a silly point to make.

Monopoly laws and no more government subsidies?

As to your original question, XUL, there are some simple answers.

If solving wealth inequality is your goal, then there is a simple answer. You raise the top marginal tax rate above a certain income level (say $500,000) to 100%. That puts a cap on income, so nobody can make more than $500,000 a year. Then you create an estate tax that is 100% over $1 million dollars, so nobody can inherit more than $1 million. You redistribute the wealth through tax credits to all of the people.

I don't advocate for doing this, and I don't know what the effects would be, but it could be done. Also, the rates could be set at anything, obviously.

I think that he's trying to lead up to a string of posts to show everybody that I can't form an argument, mostly on account of the fact that a large part of his life has been devoted to getting into arguments with people and then trying to convince an audience that either those people or their thought processes are not credible.  In all honesty, I think that he hangs around this and the Conspiracy subforum on account of the fact that he sees so many users as low hanging fruit in that respect.

I don't know whether or not you can form an argument. If you can, then you should!

This whole thing will be nose deep in the weeds about 20 posts from now, one way or another.

I can but discussions with Enlil tend to lead to him descending into a flat out, angry denial of reality and a weird clusterfuck of logical fallacies.  I'd rather smoke hash and watch Invader Zim, as long as the weather is shitty enough to drive me back here.

I live in Norway, it's like a mini-USA. Finland is pretty much the same.
