Can’t believe OP wants to use big government to over regulate the free market. Don’t you know even acknowledging wealth disparity is a Soviet tactic? Of course 3 people have more wealth than half of the country. That’s capitalism working just as God intended. Not sure why you hate America so much, but it is troubling.

Do you mean anti-trust laws?

Anti-trust laws are about protecting the free market relationship between producers and consumers. It doesn’t have anything to do with wealth disparity.

If you want to prevent government from dictating how much money people earn, you should be supporting unions. Unions are the best private sector solution to wealth inequality.

This is what I am reading.

"The Sherman Antitrust makes monopoly power illegal. Under the Sherman Act monopoly power is considered the ability of a business to control a price within its relevant product market or its geographic market or to exclude a competitor from doing business within its relevant product market or geographic market."

Here’s one place to start. In the past 40 years, workers have become 77% more productive but only earn 14% more money. Where does the wealth that extra productivity produces go? To the owners, management, stockholders etc. These are the people who are getting rich off the more efficient and valuable labor of their employees.

https://www.epi.org/productivity-pay-gap/

Quote:
From 1973 to 2017, net productivity rose 77.0 percent, while the hourly pay of typical workers essentially stagnated—increasing only 12.4 percent over 44 years (after adjusting for inflation). This means that although Americans are working more productively than ever, the fruits of their labors have primarily accrued to those at the top and to corporate profits, especially in recent years.

Legalize smallscale home cultivation of weed and shrooms and prohibit plantations, so that many households will have the pportunirty to take part in a lucerative cottage industry.

The gov't is so much on the dick of large businesses that small businesses are dying out, and small businesses is how you solve wealth disparity. You cant even grow pumpkins and tomatoes in your garden and sell them without getting arrested.

Airlines fail. The government doesn’t bail them out. With proper regulation, banks won’t fail. The problem is they aren’t regulated like they should be. I

Again, what does this have to do with wealth disparity? When a company fails it hurts everyone. People lose their jobs.

It’s not that easy . Allot of people growing weed or anything really makes it difficult to sell for a price that makes it worth it .  It used to be 4 to 5 gs a pound  when medical weed started in California . As law enforcement slowly stopped fucking with people ,  everyone started growing  and prices have fallen to nothing .
I made the most money growing weed at that price back in the day . I stopped considering it worth it about 7 years ago due to too much competion . It’s a pain in the ass and it takes money to grow top shelf shit .
To me it seems like we are creating more jobs and prosperity through regulation . It’s created a much larger market place and allowed for more buisinesses  to exist .  It allows people to have a job working with something they love , one that gauntees you will get paid and not buried in the forrest or robbed .
I think the mostly unregulated market that existed a few years ago in California is going to be looked at as a real low point in our pot growing history in this state .

This is what happens in a well regulated legal market .

When weed is legal , mostly unregulated and everyone and their grandma grows it , this is what happens .

We aren't going to solve wealth inequality but we can certainly fix social security fast and easy by removing the maximum taxable earnings cap. Right now it increases every year but at something resembling the inflation rate: $127,200 for 2017, $128,700 for 2018, $132,900 for 2019. The rich and the super-rich can certainly afford to pay more.

Or we could do what the Republicans want and just screw everyone who has paid into SS all their working lives.

My hash making skills are the reason I know this shit . The other day I made some killer hash , and I came out of my garage coughing a fucking lung out , and as I collapsed on my couch I noticed this guy on the news was going on and on about how people in India don’t like to use toilets , despite the fact that people build them for free .

First, the toilet facilities we install are very easy to maintain.  We're not taking home depot toilets and popping them in the ground.  Second, the toilet is the single most important disease control device ever developed.  People in third-world nations aren't stupid. If you explain to them that they will get sick less often by using a toilet, they use a toilet.

If you think that humans CAN exist forever, you haven't been paying attention to what's going on around you.

Are you sure "forever" is the answer? Maybe there's something deeper much more sinister to it all, "forever" is a human concept. I assume you don't know at all, and that was my point. Living forever is a possibility but in your "rational" mindset everything is confined and 1 + 1 = 2 is the truth.

You're flat out assuming.

If you think humans SHOULD exist forever, you've been completely blindfolded for some time now.

If humanity steps up their game and revolt against your lovely capitalist system we could rack up some nifty (peaceful) lifestyles.

If you don't care about economic systems, then don't discuss them.  A few posts up, you said, "Capitalism is poisonous."  That led me to believe that you wanted to discuss it.  If you don't, then don't.

Harmonious African villages where all they do is share is a model to look up to. With the right leadership it could possibly work with societies of more than one million humans.

You say it can, but it never has. There are now close to 8 billion people on this planet. What we see in the world is the product of nature.  Humans do what humans do.  You aren't going to logic humans out of their natural impulses.  That has historically never worked.

You seem to be thinking so far "ahead of things" that you're ignoring the current reality altogether.  If you want to build a computer simulation where simulated people live in harmony, that's fine.  It won't help real humans solve real human problems.

So you retreat back to your fantasy of revolution without any plan whatsoever.  You seem to think that humans are suddenly going to take back the power from whatever shadowy overlord is oppressing them and act fundamentally different from how they've acted since they first emerged in the fossil record.  It's a beautiful dream, but it's still just a dream.

The truth is:  There is no shadowy overlord.  Humans have created the only world we know how to create.

I say what can? Bold my texts like I do with your texts. To get a clear understanding of what we're debating.

You aren't going to logic humans out of their natural impulses.

Science.

If you want to build a computer simulation where simulated people live in harmony, that's fine.  It won't help real humans solve real human problems.

You said it yourself, computer simulation. Now imagine real humans within. Science and maybe something even more advanced could potentially take us there. See what I mean about thinking ahead of things?

Unfortunately your absolutely rotten capitalist system thrives on $202 trillion in wealth (by 2020) for dollar millionaire households. Meanwhile advanced neurotechnologies receive a measly $400 million in budget (2018).

You seem to think that humans are suddenly going to take back the power from whatever shadowy overlord is oppressing them and act fundamentally different from how they've acted since they first emerged in the fossil record.  It's a beautiful dream, but it's still just a dream.

All I did was stating it as a possibility if there will ever be a chance for us to exist peacefully, through altruism and science. Something big must happen, I doubt it will. And surely it won't with mindsets like yours.

The truth is:  There is no shadowy overlord.  Humans have created the only world we know how to create.

The mean entity USA INC. with it's dollar is the overlord. You should know better.

Happiness does not come with wealth, but from setting limits to one's desires.

But seriously, we assume when narcissists and psychopaths obtain wealth and power, this makes them happy. But do these things really make then happy? Same with narcissists and psychopaths.

By what measure is the United States' brand of capitalism functional? We have massive bubbles just waiting to burst, constant boom and bust cycles, our banks are bigger than when they were too big to fail, we spend an obscene amount of money on military adventurism, we have more prisons than any place in the world, terrible mental health, high infant mortality, incredible wealth inequality (and the whole host of problems that leads to), poor education standards, high crime rates, mass incarceration...

The social democracies of the Nordic countries have better healthcare outcomes, lower infant mortality, longer lifespan, less mental illness, better education standards, lower crime rates, and they are more egalitarian.

They also have quite significantly lower rates of poverty.

The fact of the matter is, America has the capability to create a much better social democracy than the Nordic countries do. We have vastly more wealth and resources.

As to your original question, XUL, there are some simple answers.

If solving wealth inequality is your goal, then there is a simple answer. You raise the top marginal tax rate above a certain income level (say $500,000) to 100%. That puts a cap on income, so nobody can make more than $500,000 a year. Then you create an estate tax that is 100% over $1 million dollars, so nobody can inherit more than $1 million. You redistribute the wealth through tax credits to all of the people.

I don't advocate for doing this, and I don't know what the effects would be, but it could be done. Also, the rates could be set at anything, obviously.

I live here dude.

Any direction the US takes and Norway accordingly follow along like a puppet nation. The prime minister (right-winger), Erna Solberg was thrilled to meet Donald Trump.

Did you know Norway had military troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria?

Norway is very different from the United States.

You're wrong.

We got lying politicians promising tax cuts for the poor. "Our" king and a queen lives in a fancy castle, the homeless rot away some kilometers down the road. Most brown people are poor, they're "segregated" in poor parts of Norway. You get looked at if you're brown in skin color. Cops are very authoritarian. Obesity is a growing concern. Strict drug laws. Heroin is very popular and there are many overdoses resulting in death per capita. Plastic surgery is becoming more popular. Murder, rape, sports and pretty faces rules mass media. Hey, Norwegians fucking love to read about American serial killers, it's headline news in Norwegian mass media. Big corporations have pretty much wiped out all smaller corporations. Most Norwegians are crazy patriotic and looks up to the US. I can go on for long.

It's a little less of the Christian nuttery. And we have gun laws.

Social democracy.

Can you give an example of a social democracy that you feel has worked well?

They also have quite significantly lower rates of poverty.

Quote:
Poverty reduction
The Nordic model has been successful at significantly reducing poverty.[42] In 2011, poverty rates before taking into account the effects of taxes and transfers stood at 24.7% in Denmark, 31.9% in Finland, 21.6% in Iceland, 25.6% in Norway and 26.5% in Sweden. After accounting for taxes and transfers, the poverty rates for the same year became 6%, 7.5%, 5.7%, 7.7% and 9.7% respectively, for an average reduction of 18.7 p.p.[43] Compared to the United States, which has a poverty level pre-tax of 28.3% and post-tax of 17.4% for a reduction of 10.9 p.p., the effects of tax and transfers on poverty in all the Nordic countries are substantially bigger.[43] However, in comparison to France (27 p.p. reduction) and Germany (24.2 p.p. reduction) the taxes and transfers in the Nordic countries are smaller on average.[43]

Also, Nordic Countries Continue To Rank High In Happiness, While America Falls.

Nordic countries score high on the human development index but that's about it. We have the same misery here as in the US, it's just a mini-version.

6.7 percent of American adults, have had at least one major depressive episode in a given year. The stats are pretty much the same for Norwegians.
