Has anyone ever tried this?(alcohol addiction)

It's been 2 years i've been drinking almost every day, so I bought ritalin to help me quit, it's been  8 days, so far i'm doing good, I find it gives me similar euphoria to the one I get from alcohol.

It really lift my mood, and I get a lot things done, i think i was drinking because i was depressed.

I've known a couple people that helped break addictions with water fasting. And if you did end up trying it, it'd probably also do your liver some good.

I've been a long time addict of alcohol, sometimes drinking, sometimes not. Acid shook me out of it once for a few years, harmalas worked as well for a couple of years, plain old willpower for some other years.

Ritalin sounds pretty fun though, I could see myself easily swapping drugs of preference.

Honestly I was drinking and doing drugs on a daily basis for years. Exercise is ultimately what led me to give up drinking and I felt twice as good, felt good for exercising and felt better not drinking. You get stuck in a loop drinking all the time and it's not good for your head or the liver. Its a crutch.

Oh and I smoked a shit ton of weed. That helped a lot too. I'd just light up if I felt like drinkin.

My vote goes to exercise and a balanced diet.

Start out with just walking 1-2h every day.

Walk to work/school if possible.

In my experience, swapping out one drug for another hardly ever works in the long run. Using Ritalin certainly is not a long term cure.
Exercise and good diets are great ways to make you feel better about yourself but what happens if you get a debilitating disease like RA or have joint replacements that limit physical activity....what then?

I am one that tried almost every conceivable way to keep drinking, not stop....Tried like crazy to control and justify it. People need to understand that alcoholism centers in the smarter part of our brains and we cannot out think it....It will inevitably win and justify picking up and taking a drink. I learned this the hard way like most drunks and eventually just had to surrender and say..."You won" to booze. You beat me. This is when I took AA seriously as a program to stop drinking/ and drugging and to stay stopped.

I know you guys want to balk at it and that's ok, I know I did for at least 10 years when people close to me, judges, lawyers, doctors insisted I go. But there will come a moment of clarity when you have to decide to either stay on the sinking ship or jump into a lifeboat.
I'm glad I finally gave in. Don't be afraid of it....AA is not a cult...it's a program for living with the disease of alcoholism without taking a drink a day at a time.
I still trip occasionally and see that as a tool that is under utilized and not mentioned much in AA...mushrooms are spiritual to me. In any case, I wish anybody that is alcoholic to find some peace and to be able to quit drinking whatever way they can.:peace::sunny:

Speed > Alcohol. All day. Hell, DXM > alcohol.

But yeah I do the same. Now.

It's all just dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, etc anyways.

Taper and replace, I calls it.

Taper from harmful substances and switch to less harmful ones. All the way down to sobriety or at least a healthier addiciton. Went from shooting up coke and heroin to alcohol (which was sort of a hge step backwards but I was like, 'heh, this is legal, it must be healthier! her her') ...and am now just tapering kratom and weed.

Anyways, alcohol, ritilin, marijuana, etc. They all affect many different neurochemical pathways, I think. I know cannibis, for instance, affects the same receptors as opioids and benzos, which I found weird. Everything is complicated. More complicated than we could possibly understand. I think.


Anyways, good luck to you. Just make sure you're not trading for a shittier drug.

I think if someone would've pointed me in the direction of uppers, and away from booze, long ago, my life would've been better. Or, at least more productive! lol.

One addiction for another.

Try kratom. Same idea, addiction for addiction, but kratom is much easier on body and it gets you high!

plus it's addicting, tolerance builds insanely fast, and the comedown once you require larger doses is one of the worst things ever.

This is nothing to do with ritalin but I was at a conference today for "service users" ie people that have used health services to beat their addiction and it was super fucking interesting. A lot of it focused on the dangers of polydrug use and how alcohol is a massive contributing factor in drug related deaths.

But on the point of replacing one substance for another. I know fuck all about ritalin but if theres q likely hood thatd youd be replacing drink for something that makes you feel like you've had drink I'd say its probably  no bueno man

I would not recommend you start using an upper after recently stopping a lonh term alcohol problem. That lowers the seizure threshold a lot. It will also just replace itself and cost a lot since you’ll have to start taking more and more.

Also, is your doctor going to prescribe it to you as a treatment? Cos if not I'm guessing you'll have to get it off

Eating Kratom for 3, almost 4 weeks daily (1 kg) was what helped me kick alcohol in a similar position as you.
Going on 4 years now since that great experiment.

If you're going to replace a vice with another, make sure the latter is exponentially safer.
Stims..Not so much so.
Opioid like leaf, yuh.

The ritalin is losing efficiency, now  that my tolerance is high it doesnt feel any better than coffee, I think I'm gonna buy some kratom cuz my cravings for alcohol are returning.

Try going to a meeting....just being around other dudes with the same affection for booze may help. Also, keep sweets around like jolly ranchers or hard candies that you can keep in your mouth for awhile.
Chocolate helps with cravings too.

Tried this before and it did not work for me in long run. Maybe sign on yoga class rather than change the form of addiction?
