To hell with states rights?
    #25833181 -

Seriously.  It's too darn schizophrenic to have a different law every damn town or state.  Why not just have consistent law that is easy to understand?

They make it so complicated that half the people got into law, cause they are criminals.  My definition of a criminal is not one who got caught, but one who broke the law.

People complain a lot about a powerful federal government.  When the fed is obviously very weak.  Because of this fracturing.

A national lottery is worth more than a state lotto.  So much gets lost in these increasingly small rings of defense.  Now we have 50 schizophrenics forming a whole.

Why not a national police force? Instead of state, county and local?

All the local cops do is inform to their friends the next bust.  I had Naval Security tell me the cops knew I had dope plants and the navy wanted to grow those as well.  But this country is schizophrenic.

Local cops get all Bogart the power.  They protect their own more than they protect someone else's.

With a national police force you'd be relocated.  So corruption isn't as simple.  You'd not have the same partner for a decade or so.  It'd make a lot more sense.

A system of laws that works well for Oregon isn't necessarily going to work well for Florida.  This country is very large and diverse.  Laws should be tailored to the jurisdiction within which they are going to apply.  By your logic, why not have a global police force and one system of laws for the world?  That'd be a hoot, I'm sure.

It would be a hoot.  It was during colonies.  Failure of colonies brought larger wars.  Mostly empires that cannot colonies.

It's rude to have different right and wrongs based on culture and not fact.

Law isn't about right and wrong.  It's about creating a framework wherein people agree to a certain reduction in freedom in exchange for the ability to coexist in a society.  Different people have different ideas about where those lines should be drawn.  Also, different geographical locations pose different obstacles to society.  It makes total sense that law must be tailored to the circumstances that actually affect society.

Most people don't know that.  How it is a conspiracy to judge one but not another.

Who said anything about conspiracy?  I don't know what you're even talking about with that.

And yes, most people understand that laws don't define what is right and wrong.  Ask 100 people if driving over the speed limit is morally wrong.  I'll bet dollars to donuts that less than 5 say yes.

That's because people are hypocritical and immoral.

Driving 100 increases mortality rates, drives up pollution, costs more wear and tare, plus burns up gas and oil more.

It's also illegal in the USA.

In some parts of the U.S., it's illegal. Not everywhere.

But what about driving 26 in a 25 MPH zone?  Is that immoral?  It's certainly illegal.  I don't know why you'd presume 100 MPH in this discussion.  Laws don't define morality.  There are things that are legal and immoral, illegal and immoral, and illegal and moral.  Legality and morality are unrelated.

I didn't confuse that.  You brought up speeding as a justification to assume morality is not a defense.

I know the law is immoral.  That is it's respect/fear projection power.  Morality is what they put in the papers and media.

Somewhere though there must be co-exist but courts don't do that very obviously.

I don't understand anything you're trying to say at this point.

Laws are different because people are different. Laws reflect the values of a society.

Not really.  They reflect the values of what elected officials can agree to pass measures with.

Laws that go against the will of the people don't last very long.

All laws are against the will of the people...or nobody would be in prison.  Not many people want to go to jail, yet it does indeed occur.

Most people just live life very low risk and do little to improve anything.  They become professional students and mitigate risk by cheating professionally.

They think they have God's power to do what they please.  Most professionals do not have perfect home lives.  They have kids and such that break the law, just as they broke the law.

Nobody ever reports each-other to the police unless it's that bad.  Sometimes it is too bad to report to anyone.

That's a stupid argument.  Not everyone, or even the majority of people, are in prison.

Can you give a single example of a longstanding law that didn't enjoy the support of the majority?

Besides cannabis?

You are all over the spectrum here bro.  You don't have a clear argument and are obviously arguing.

Fact is 10% of Americans are felons.  I have no idea how many have misdemeanors.

The rates of incarceration for ex-military are also sky high.  So high they don't release that data.

The prohibition of weed had majority support for a long time. Now that this support has diminished,  the laws are changing.

10 percent is a minority

More rubbish.

There's only one person in this thread who doesn't have a clear or even close to logical argument.
But keep going, it's very insightful, albeit sad.
