Cheapest agar tek?

Hey everyone I feel like this may have been covered many times but is there anyway that someone could point me in the direction of a cheap agar tek to get started any help is appreciated.

Using the water that you boil grains in is the bomb. It's the stuff you literally would be dumping down the sink just filtered and agar added. Done. And shit grows on it better than the prepared fancy agar plates that I have bought.

Boil a handful of grains for 15 minutes and use that. Or ground up pet food works as wellbif you have that. Use 2% by weight whatever you use :thumbup:

I assume you have a pressure cooker. Cheapest assuming you don't have grains to boil:

150g of chopped potato in 500ml of water. Simmer for 60 minutes. Filter through a dish cloth. Add 10g agar powder, and optionally 7g of sugar. Bring to a simmer to dissolve agar. Pour a bit into a small plastic container that has a number 5 inside a triangle written on the underside. Modify the lid to allow for GE.

Pressure cook at 15 PSI for 20 - 30 minutes.

You don't need petri dishes either.. just get some PP5 plastic containers.

I use some 8oz clear ones, others have found they like tupperware like containers.  I'd suggest trying to find ones that have clear lids so you can see the growth, but that's just me.

my containers cost $0.25 each and you can get them cheaper if you buy in bulk like ebay or restaurant supply stores online.
