As long as subjectivity doesn't take precedence over opbjectivity, you can be sure that what you know isn't existing only in the mind; illusory. -I almost wish you had followed your own advice because you would not have devloped communication skills. Experimenting with which plants are edible and which will are not would take up much of your life, which thanks to the lack of medicine would be cut short, and you'd never learn to make clothes or build a fire (which you wouldn't have much use for anyways since you wouldn't be catching meat anyways) Sure, you might find a few moments in your life, such as in dreaming and fever delerium, where reality deteriorates into illusion... you might then "know" a few things and have a vague concept of god, which at that point you'd beg for death, but it would be all in the mind and not any real truth.

Take the hate and flames to OTD, or better yet, don't generate them at all.


Personally, I don't subscribe to modern mythology... ritual recitation of verbal charms or spells to produce a magic effect has no part in my life.

Is this merely a social nicety and expression of concern or is there some deeper mystical power being applied?
I choose "social nicety." It's a considerate thing to say that offers some comfort (but it eventually sounds like verbal diarrhea).

What exactly would someone pray for after a fatal tragedy? That the survivors eventually feel better? Isn't that inevitable? And if the tragedy is potentially fatal...there's a correct way to pray to curve God's will?

Mr. Mushroom, I'm genuinely interested in your explanation...got a summary of it or a link?

I would say that "my thoughts and prayers are with you" is, in most cases, simply a social nicety these days, Swami. It's an expression of empathy, towards a person who is obviously feeling sad from their current situation. Saying something like this is another way of saying "Hey, I know how you feel and I'm sorry that you have to feel this way right now. I hope you will feel better soon."

Science does not address questions such as why things exist or what "higher reasons" organisms for. Science explains how natural phenomena occur.

I don't always take people's word for their conclusions. If someone wants to convince me of a conclusion, they must support evidence (data).

I do consider the possibility that others may falsify their data.
