yes the city as zoo seems a good analogy or metaphor
along with reduced fertility improved emotional processing for complex situations would have been nice;
and as has been pointed out by many, who are concerned with the effects of junk food on health, our instincts to devour sweets and fat, have backfired in the civilized environment of plenty, and 'pretend food' for profit.

Sure thing. Those look promising. I would also look at Cannibals and Kings by Harris, as he gives particularly good insights in it.
