I'm an artist. When I started, I was foolish and didn't use proper ventilation techniques. I'd just keep windows open, back door open, etc. I would use a large amount of a variety of paint thinners, mineral spirits and materials along the same vein. But, you wouldn't have been able to smell it from that far away still.
I don't know what a meth lab would smell like but I googled it and this came back:
Quote: There is more than one way to cook meth, but if you see or smell these chemicals together, they might indicate a meth lab.
acetone isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol or Iso-Heet fuel treatment) methyl alcohol (wood spirits or Heet fuel treatment) lye as in Red Devil lye crystal or liquid iodine mineral spirits bleach anhydrous ammonia sulfuric acid (car battery acid) hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) matches/matchbox strikers (for red phosphorus) cold tablets containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine white gas lithium (from lithium batteries) trichloroethane (solvent for gun cleaning) sodium metal or rock or table salt ether (starter fluid) toluene
Every site kept stating that it could smell like strong paint thinner or nail polish remover. Seems like you may have a neighboring meth lab.
What would I do, if I were you? Mind my own business. Then again, I don't know how close this house is to you, my knowledge of meth labs is minimal, and I don't know your general living circumstances so I can't give advice as to what you should do.
