MOREL PINS IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS! * 1

Hey everyone, back in April I decided I would try growing morels and see what happens.

4/25/17
I put together the raised bed and filled it with a mix of Gypsum, peat moss, sand and potting soil.
I then broke up a brick of morel spawn and mixed that in thoroughly.
After that I put a layer of apple wood chips on top and gave it all a nice watering.




6/24/17
I went and check on the bed today and there are pins popping up already!
There is a sprinkler right next to the bed giving it water every couple days.
Now that I know there are pins though I will be doing a daily watering by hand.

I believe its Morchella rufobrunnea, thanks haha I changed it.

Ive got another spawn bag colonizing right now I will be spreading in another part of my yard.

Maybe next year I won't even need to go on a hunt. :lol:
Got morel, oyster, shiitake, cyanescens, azurescens, and ovoideocystidiata all in the back.
Might try to inoculate some logs with lions mane as well.

Of course I will go on tons of hunts as foraging is loads of fun!

I didn't even think they would show up until next spring if at all since its been so hot recently.
A tear might have fallen from my eye when I saw the pins.

Can you share it with the class? I have ~8 qurt jars of morel spawn to do something with. Was thinking about leaving them in the dark for a couple konths then planting the sclerotia, they are pretty much over colonized at this point though and I think I should probably do something w/them.

I was actually thinking about this at one point.
I was either going to add some fresh charcoal on top and water it in or just start a small fire in the raised bed.

Maybe ill try this a bit later in the summer.

I'm not sure rufo responds to fires. I think other varieties do, I could be wrong.:shrug:

I don't think charcoal will work, AFAIK mycelium cannot digest-breakdown C-C bonds.
You want wood ash instead of charcoal for replicating a forest fire.

99.99% chance you will get 0% reaction from charcoal.
