If you traveled back in time and killed Jesus...

before he could die on the cross. How different would the bible be?

Would Jesus have known all along, but allowed himself to be assasinated for your sins?
Would Jesus have risen again from the dead?
Would there even be a bible?

I don't think it would be any different because I think the story of Jesus' crucifixion was made up to begin with. But that's just me.

I think it'd be interesting if you killed him during the "missing time" in his life, from the ages of 13 to 30, that the Gospels don't make any mention of. I doubt there would be a New Testament if that happened, unless of course Jesus was just a myth to begin with. And yes, there would be a Bible, just as there was a Bible in Jesus's day. It would just contain fewer books.

I'm fairly certain that there are not. Jesus (at the time) was a minor figure in the political arena and his life and passing received very little notice outside of his circle. It was the only the movement following his death that caught any historian's attention.

Im affraid im with Swami on this one. I belive the man existed, however im pretty sure that science has not yet found solid proof or record that Jesus of Nazareth lived at all. They crucifyied men like him everyday. To everyone exept his small group of followers he was just another man that was killed for ploting against his goverment.

Nope.  In the Catholic High School I went to, they tried very hard to convince us that Jesus actually lived, but the best they could do was the accounts of the Jewish historian Josephus, as well as a few letters from low-ranking Roman officers, none of whom wrote anything about Jesus until at least 50 years after his death.

I'm not sure I'm right, which is why I accepted Swami's offer of money to do the research. But I think I remember seeing a show on Discovery or something like that, talking about proof that someone named Jesus existed, at the same time as the debate-provoking Jesus. I don't remember at this point what was said exactly, or how much proof there was.

They most likely are referring to the same accounts that I'm referring to. Also, I doubt they said it was proof that Jesus existed. These accounts fall into the category of evidence, but not proof. I have no doubt that someone named Jesus, or rather Yeshua, as it would be translated to Hebrew, existed in that day and age. In fact, I am quite certain there were many people by that name back then. Hell, I've met plenty of Mexicans named Jesus in my life.

That would make sense. As someone I know keeps saying, if God wanted us to believe in Him easily, He would have left proof somewhere. He did't want it to be that easy, so why would He have left proof of Jesus behind? Something like that. But what you are saying makes sense.

Sooooo.... your saying God is just fuckin' with our heads uh.... Hmm.. Belive in something with no proof, oooooorrr die athousand deaths in a post-apocyliptic lake of fire... Gee, i don't know why this dude doesn't get worshiped as much anymore.

as to contemporaneous written records, well...
even the josephus entry (per jesus) is suspected of being a later interpolation...
the letters of st paul are probably the oldest scriptures of the christian new testament (and he himself admitted to knowing jesus only in the spirit, & not in the flesh...)
so...
the most solid bit of evidence we have is a recently translated inscription on a reliquary containing the remains of "james the just" - the leader of the early jerusalem church... on the funeral urn, he is identified as being the son of joseph & the brother of jesus...
