Time travel

Everyone has heard about the grandfather theory of time travel, right? You go back in time, off your dad, and you blip out of existance. now, (given that this is possible, and the only route of time) your dad is dead. The way I see it, that means you no longer exist, which also means that no one went back and killed him. So, shouldn't you blip back into existance the same moment you blip out?

No, it would create a loop where you keep killing your dad then dissapearing then reapearing to kill your dad again and this would overide the circuts causing the matrix to malfunction, blow up all the machinery and kill us all in the process. Or it would create an infinite amount of quantum realities wich will happen in 2012. Or this conversation is pointless. I'm not sure wich.

The fact of the matter is, if you had the technology to travel in time, you wouldn't kill your father.
Besides that, time travel is regulated by the Council of Worlds, they would decide if your intentions of travelling to the past were pure, and would only allow you to make that trip to the past with their consent. You would only be able to travel into the past if you were doing something for the benefit of everyone involved.
And another thing, you would most likely be coming from a higher vibrational density, therefore you would be invisible to the person you were visiting. You would only be able to communicate with that person mentally (if that person was aware of your presence) and you would be able to interact with that person physically very little. If you tried to punch him in the face your fist would go right through his head.

I don't think time would care if you killed your father, because somewhere in time, you were already born. That is how you got to travel through time anyway. You would go back, kill your father, the material that is you would remain and eventually you would leave that time to another where it doesn't matter if you killed your father or not.

First we would need to understand what time is......any takers?

Paradoxes, by definition, cannot exist.
Therefore, you would be unable to change anything in your past time-line, unless that change was already reflected in your past history before you stepped into that time machine.
This can also be resolved through the parallel universes theory, although that lends a whole other degree of complication to the problem.

Crazy bump... lol
Anyway, maybe when you go back in time you can do whatever you want with no paradox. That is, so what if you kill your grandpa... maybe then he will die, your young self would never be born and your old self just lives on then dies and time continues to march on.
For the paradox to be, the information that the collection of your atoms was originally assembled sometime in the future would have to be carried with you to the past. 'Causality' would then have to distinguish between a collection of atoms that was assembled in the future and one assembled in the past or present. If that were the case, causality would be an amazingly interesting mechanism.

Craziest thing is, you would be in the present but everything and everyone else is in the past. It would be as if you woke up one day and your 5 years in the past but you retain all your memory. Thats something to think about.

Too bad we can't figure out how to fast-forward. Man that'd be such a life saver for anything boring. Sadly, as far as I know the only way to time travel is via wormhole.

I thought about making sports bets, but I have to wonder if the results of the games would change because your new causality waves - (no matter how small) would effect everything from your moment of entry into the past all the way up to your previous "present"....
So, invest in Google and Ebay, invent a few things that you knew about five years in the new re-future, it would be a party for sure....

You can go forward using relativity, you just need a shit load of energy.

Even if you didnt kill your dad, you would still change quite a bit in the future. (Chaos Theory)

I forgot to mention that you guys do realize that going back in time won't necessarily work because everything would have already happened that you "Changed" and that really, you can only go forward in time.

If you go back in time via a wormhole like thing, or just reposition every particle in the same manner as it was in that past moment, would there be a difference?

Edit: After quickly reviewing A Brief History of Time again, wormholes would allow you to travel back in time.

what're you talking about? They're perfectly plausible within General Relativity and Einstein was the one who found them, and he hated the idea of time travel.

Ehhh... some people have a word for inventing and mathematically justifying exotic phenomenon that have no experiential evidence or observational justification -- mental masturbation.
But hey, it is enjoyable! Thats the fun of this whole thread.

wow, good replies guys. I was a teenager when I first wrote about that temporal paradox, but it made me lol when I found it.
