Thanks Hashed. They sure are wicked the way they survive ready to grow again next rain downfall. Looking back at the photos some of the horse dung has primordial fruiting bodies popping up everywhere. So it'll be fun to see how they grow.

I was thinking about that earlier in the year ent. Because the right little nugget could be posted along with a few others I think. If they were dry it would be like just add water and little P.alutacea would appear overnight.

Thanks Fractliopsybe and NothingsChanged:thumbup: your comments make it all worthwhile.

My next experiment will be to spore print some good specimens later on in the container. Then just spray them onto a new container full of horse poo and wait. The horse dung I got from next door is very old. Each time it rains the P.alutacea fruit on it. So I guess each little nugget is saturated with spores.

However that doesn't explain to me how they appear so quick. P.alutacea from little primordial buttons right through its life cycle as a fruit body can handle being very dried out with no problem. I guess the horse dung nuggets act like a sponge absorbing rain water. This in turn remoistens the dried out P.alutacea and presto instant mushrooms. They are fun to play around with.

Not much to report regarding P.tasmaniana. Had 20mm of rain over the last few days. It's very wet where they are so more may fruit when it dries out a bit.

P.tasmaniana specimen showing gills and cap.

My key board has no letter between "O" and "Q". Until I get a new one I'll just do images.
Since its all alutacea lately that's what they are. Next door today.

Your missing the whole top row of your key board?
It seems as the poo is a full circle casing. Maybe the straw/grass inside holds moisture and the sun dried crusty exterior locks it in. Kind of like there own water reserve?
I like the looks of the hygrophorus ones.

It's going slowly like last time. They only last a while. Yes NothingsChanged I think your right about that. Must be enough moisture inside until the next rainfall.

Brilliant thread full of rare and lesser known species, a credit to the forums and the mushroom community

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.
