seems the lime is a more integral part of the tek
than the bleach is...

My friend was doing the dung pasteurized with lime and bleach and had some left over pan cyan cambo spawn.. well he decided to try his luck.. he took the extra colonized seed dunked it for 24 hours and then went to his shed where he found 1\5 of a bag of scotts 3 n 1( not sterilized or pasteurized , just plain compost ).. so he tossed it in there.. 2 days later andit is 40% colonized.. he guesses he will just case with vermec and lime when it is fully colonized.. his question is can you do the same with soaked straw.. or is it more contamable?

Very nice flush QT!!
Folks, bleach isn't in the tek, ONLY lime. 1/2 cup of lime for each 15 gallons of 150F pasteurization water. Bleach isn't good for mycelium. Lime doesn't seem to bother it. Glad to see more folks trying these straw teks.

the bleach method of pasturization is from stamets,
any bleach used in pasturization is long gone by the time its' spawned, and in low concentrations bleach is harmless to the mycellia, as many who regularly use bleach as a preventive 'dip' can testify.
but it is 'optional', of course. Visions, of the laundry basket tek, used both lime and bleach to give a double pasturization, even using hot water as well for a triple whammy, seemed remarkably effective, too.

see VISIONS' TEK for details.

http://www.veripack.com

they have poly tubing rolls for pretty decent prices.

the 4 mil is more than enough, you could probably get
away with using 2 or 3 mil.

anyone found better suppliers?

this is plastic sheeting.... but very tough... easily rolled up to make a log.. no need to have a tube!!!

one could also use dryer hose!! real cheap, you could strech it and make a long snake python log!! it's white, but light goes right thru it!!

how would you get the dryer hose off the log
for fruiting?

wrapping logs is more work than you think.

I like the wheel technique QT's using when
using plastic sheeting...

Would cubes grow properly if you cut good size holes in the side and left the tubing on? Something like this:

With the storage setup in my house a log laying on a shelf would be inconvenient, and it would be hard to keep from accidently damaging it. If I could get this to work right with a few six foot logs hanging from the ceiling it would be perfect for my needs. What problems would I have with the setup I just described?

cubensis are not going to pin only
at the openings as in the picture you
show.

hanging colonization seems reasonable,
but what to do then when it is time to fruit?

How do you support your logs? How long from spawn to fruit? You say to mix 1/2 half cub of lime to 14 gallons of water. Then take 10 gallons of this water discard the 4 leftover gallons, and add a cup of bleach to it Right? Will hydrated lime work for this? Do the bags need to sit in a sterile inviroment during incubation? Also do the baskets during colonization just sit in an unsterile open air room with no covering? Would adding dung to the straw increase yeilds with this tek? Thanks

i work two jobs.
seriously,
they work best just laid on a shelf like so--

How long from spawn to fruit?

no guarantees, but 14-21 days from spawning is about par.

lol i guess one could do it that way but it'd proly just be easier to figure how much is needed of each based on the water used.
these figures aren't too precise so there's room to fudge a bit,
but it works out to roughly 1/2 tablespoon of lime and 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water.

Quote:

yes, that's what you are supposed to use.

Quote:
Do the bags need to sit in a sterile inviroment during incubation?

no, just a clean area.

Quote:

yes, but plastic is used to cover it loosely to prevent over-drying.

dung can be used, and could increase yields, but colonization is slowed a bit.

The Mycotopia Guys got to wheezing on Christian People purty hard a couple of months ago so we kinda moved along, However, prior to that time my friend and I took a long look at this TEK.

We found it an exceptionally easly an effective bulk TEK, but like everyone obtaining polytubing was a hassle--until one of the BRO's (like ShroomQT above) came to the house with some rolls of 4 and 6 mil Contractors plasting sheeting from Lowes and some Scotch brand super strength clear packing tape.

we cut the widths we wanted using the pi r squared thing.

lay the plastic contractors' sheeting down on the clear tape--folded in two.

then folded the tape over the seam.

turned the bag inside out

taped the inside seam.

Using this method we never had a break in the bag (and we tried believe me) and the results were outstanding. Using Rodgers and Hippie3's methods we were able to estimate our per bag cost (once all material purchased at less than $3.00. Also, we found we could make smaller test bags or larger production bags at a whim. One caution: for the Oyster Guys it is great, but for the cube Guys tape will pull an exceptional fingerprint wherever touched.
