straw logs stalled
    #1820616 - 08/16/03 07:12 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

two straw logs were created by Rodger Rabbit's tek and immediately began colonizing very rapidly... after about 5-6 days, growth stalled and seemingly stopped without finishing colonizing!
included are pics... the growing conditions stayed constant throughout the process...they are in a terrarium, 85-95% humidity, air temp 73-78 degrees F, 15 min of cool mist every hour, plus fanning occasionally...

what;s going on? the smaller log is 2 weeks old, the larger is about one week old ... they both have about the same amount of growth...no growth in a number of days....

log 1 (smaller):

log 2 (larger):

note that only pieces of straw right up against the plastic are uncolonized...like the mycelium can't get to it

well, the distance was approximated -- do you think it might be too few holeS? more holes are easy to make!! many of the holes are not the size that was suggested in the tek because no arrowheads are available

just need suggestions from someone with log experience

It's probably not too few, from the pictures I just couldn't tell if there were any holes at all

No idea what it could be, sorry I can't help

many more small holes have been poked in places where the straw was not colonized.. the logs have also been taken out of the terrarium and placed on a shelf above ... do you think this might help them to finish colonizing?

is it possible that it is "too late" for the logs? please, any help/info is appreciated.

When asking for help on a certian tek, at least read over the tek once again to make sure you did everything EXACTLY right.

One of the logs has some pins!

due to a lack of sheving space, would it be okay to birth into a terrarium with humidity 85% and 15 min of cool mist every hour? Believe this would provide almost constant air exchange...some casings are doing well in the environment... advice sought!

Yes, after birthing, that would be good. Just give it lots of air exchange, or you'll be growing more green than mushies.
