I've seen somewhere on this board a picture of a regular opened soup can used in this way, except no hinges. The end had holes stuffed with polyfil for air exchange. The advantages are that the whole thing can be autoclaved and it can't get much cheaper than that! I think it was SixTango who posted the pix, but my brain isn't certain.
