Mushrooms & Norse Mythology
    #22816584 -

Every single mushroom trip I've had this year has had really strange Norse Mythology type vibes that are kind of hard to explain.  Like very testosterone-filled chaotic brave hero trips, I don't really know how to explain it. Like I just feel like doing sorcery and going into battle and then sitting down and drinking mead around a feast afterwards in the halls of the gods with ladies kissing my neck while magic stuff is happening everywhere.   That's the best description I can give.

It spiked my interest enough to start reading the sagas and stories, and it turns out NORSE MYTHOLOGY PERFECTLY DESCRIBES MY MUSHROOM TRIPS.

I know that the Norse supposedly used Amanitas, but as far as I know there aren't native psilocybin mushrooms up there right?  (I've used Amanitas too, but I can't really remember much from those trips.  I know I liked them, but I pretty much blacked out each time)

Another piece to this is that I do have a lot of Norwegian blood, and this year (because of mushrooms) I have really been proud of that and have had an almost "coming back" to my ancestry and it's really spiritual.

If you blacked out from amanita, it is because you took too high a dose. People dose amanita thinking it is like psilocybin, taking the whole dose at once. Its actually more like alcohol, you sip on it slowly. You have a bite, wait two hours, have another bite, until you get where you want to be.

Anyway, if you read the Psychedelic Experience by Leary Alpert and Metzner it talks a little about this, not necessarily norse mythology specifically but basically how you tap into the different archetypical realms. For me, when I take mushrooms I often experience lots of gnome, elf, fairy type phenomena.

I plan on delving further into the amanita at some point with more respect and humility and hear what it has to say (and if nothing else, so I can make amends.)

I've had different phases in my life where mushrooms just have totally different vibes.  I've gotten Mayan vibes before, I've DEFINITELY had some goblin/faery mischief happen to me before.  But my more recent trips have just been different

I wonder if the different archetypes would just present themselves more at a certain time of your life?

I also have been living (and tripping) in a different geographical location this past year, I wonder if that area is just more charged with that type of energy?

Scandinavia is full of liberty caps.

If you're looking for music with a Nordic vibe, this album is the best one in my opinion:

Yeah, from what you are saying it sounds like you are tapping into some ancestral knowledge for sure.  I do think that what your brain and dna chooses to show you can be different at different point in your life.  Right now, you are seeking the ancient stories and if you've gone so far as to read the sagas, well...it's what you need right now and the mushroom knows that.

Neat, eh?

Could be past life stuff going on too.  That would explain why maybe now you are immersed in this point of history.  Maybe in 15 or 20 years, you will find yourself  craving knowledge from a different point in time.  Past life stuff tends to come up when you reach an age where certain events happened or there are parallels in the current and past life.  Example, in your Norse life, you have come to an age where you have earned respect from your community in battle.  The pride of being a respected warror shapes who you are.  Your soul in this life remembers this as your body comes to be of the same age, or similar experience.  Soul memories are bringing you back.

Maybe in a different life you died from a lung disease in Ancient Egypt.  You were 40, it was traumatic and painful.  In this life, you turn 40 and develop a wicked cough.  Your soul is remembering.

Soul stuff is way cool.  Listen to your mushrooms.

How are the Sagas?  Are they hard to read?

Definitely agree. Totally jive with all what you say(this and the other stuff).

I think it's really cool how your archetypes are coming up all Norse...mine's mostly tribal African and South American, often times there will be points of light, or eyeballs, each one a consciousness and forming a large mass(ball or wall of eyes/points staking making a whole entity), it wasn't until I connected deeply with this native American shaman(whom comes up repeatedly) did I have a breakthrough.

Also, I've met the Shaman guy in OBEs prior during past life investigations.  Having him come up recently ended starting a desire to learn more about Shamanism, and Southern American traditions.

I definitely agree that the archetypes present themselves more during particular points.  And find them to be really cool gateways of deeper learning.

My mom always tells me stories of how I used to talk about eating rice in China and counting gold when I first learned to speak and should have no idea what China even was.

And the sagas just flow straight into my brain and make so much sense like I was made to read them.  I don't even get that from Lord of The Rings

Have you ever considered a past life regression?  Sounds like you have a lot of stuff  that wants to come forward.

I've been reading a lot of Viking history lately and I'm just obsessed with the whole Viking age.  I have not got my hands on the Sagas yet, but that's pretty much the next step.  It's very interesting.

Past life therapy is a very iffy affair. People sometimes call me for a hypnosis appointment for that, but I tell people that my practice is clinical, not metaphysical, because the unconscious can confabulate material in hypnosis just as it does every night when we have outrageous dreams. perhaps I'll change my mind on this, but people are going to have to pay my fee for such exploration and it can get pricey right away, whereas I can usually relieve or remove the cause of symptoms for a long-term problem in as few as 2 (minimum) to 3 sessions. The best book I've read (most convincing from a clinician's perspective who initially did not believe in the phenomenon) is Past Life Therapy by Dr. Morris Netherton.

We didn't really dig Vikings on TV, but we thought The Last Kingdom was the bomb! http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/the-last-kingdom-bbc-america-series-debuts-october-10th-37779/

I started with "The Children of Odin" by Padraic Colum and it's the one to start out with for sure.  It's very all-encompassing and acquaints you with all of the Gods and giants and vanir and stuff.  It comes to a head when Odin transforms himself into a man and goes on a huge journey through the world of men, eventually sacrificing himself for knowledge (in the form of runes) for the good of men.  I'm sure you've heard that part of the saga but there's a lot more pieces to it than just the sacrifice (something that many Christians forget about Christ)

I've listened to Wardruna, my buddy who is straight Cherokee (born in Las Vegas, this guy is a wizard without a doubt) played it to me when we were drinking and camping one time, was pretty weird  :sagetrip:

It's funny I should run into this post because the Keeper of the Grove (aka the Master of the Hunt in norse mythology) plays a major role in my book about an incredible mushroom trip - Called Faces On The Mountain

Please check it out, I need more people to tell me what they think - so if you're interested in this thread you'll be interested in the book, and I will keep anything said here in mind as I go forward working on it. (it's free>)

I love it!! I'm half Norwegian 2nd gen but I could never get into the old mythology. Perhaps I shall think about this on my next journey.
