I had no senses last night at about the time I wrote that. Three shots of tequila, and then sipped some scotch. That'll take care of them senses.

If you sneak into the woods, very quiet like, you will see deer sitting crosslegged, humming.. same with all animals. You have to basically be a Zen Master yourself, because if they detect a ripple in the utter peace of the environment, they will stop their meditating. They don't want us to know, you know. :wink:

This is quite correct. The difference between animals and humans is radically, and yet more than analytically, distinct.

This is why no animal has yet to create a tool that makes other tools. It is why they do not use propositional speech. And it is also why they do not have "history".

Animals are quite capable of perceptual abstraction. But no animal other than man can 'conceptualize' or perform conceptual abstraction.

Actually there was one thread I found fascinating in OTD and I wanted to pop in and comment.  It seems that back when I was a moderator (March 11th) I was voted as the best and worst moderator at the Shroomery.  Someone recently bumped the thread and I got a chance to see it for the first time.

I am rather proud of that singular distinction.

I think it's better to be both the best and worst rather than just the best or just the worst.  Or "worse" yet, to be mediocre. 

If everyone likes you, when you're in a position of power, most likely you're just a kiss-ass who bends in any direction.  To hold firm on principles, you're bound to piss somebody off.
