Seeing as I cut down trees and kill weeds and whatnot for a living... it's hard to say.
In a way a trees mass is more significant, they also provide homes for birds and mammals. My own significance is bush regeneration though so as a whole I do contribute.

So maybe a tree isn't more significant, but it is significant too.

I generally tend to value human life a bit more than i value tree life. I love trees, but if it's either my life or a tree's life, i'm taking that motherfucker out

with any amount of decency and respect even cut trees are part of the continuum of that tree's life. (i.e. replanting, regrowth etc.)
this is an important teaching from nature.
