Synchronicity
    #2342618 - 02/16/04 07:55 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So I'm sitting here reading threads, and I think to myself "gee, I haven't heard The Day I Tried To Live (Soundgarden) in a while, that's a cool song". What made me think of the song is I was listening to Aenema (Tool) at the moment and was thinking about shitty society issues.

What's the next song to play on my winamp list, on random out of about 2500 songs?

Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live :smirk:

So how's this synchronicity thing working for everyone else, lately?

-------------

Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live

I woke the same as any other day
Except her voice was in my head...
It said 'seize the day, pull the trigger,
Drop the blade
And watch the rolling heads'

The day I tried to live
I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich!

The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
And let the martyrs stretch!

Singin,
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
The day I tried to live!

Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones
Inside your head...
The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere
But dead!

The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs!

Singin,
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
The day I tried to live!
The day I tried...

I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed!

The day I tried to win!
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
All the other pigs!

And I learned that I was a liar...
I learned that I was a liar...
I learned that I was a liar...
I learned that I was a liar...

Singin,
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
One more time around
Might do it
One more time around
Might make it
The day I tried to live!
Just like you...

One more time around...
One more time around...

That wouldn't be a valid example of synchronicity

Why isn't it, trendal? Explain synchronicity???

Synchronicity is one of those things you can be reeeaally into or reeeaaally not into and your life won't change either way. Well, you'd be more into synchronicity, but other than that..

basically it's pretty damn hard to get those little "I feel like somethings gonna happen and it does" things to produce food or money for oneself.

(from dictionary.com)

syn?chro?nic?i?ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sngkr-ns-t, sn-)
n. pl. syn?chro?nic?i?ties
1. The state or fact of being synchronous or simultaneous; synchronism.
2. Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related, conceived in Jungian theory as an explanatory principle on the same order as causality.

--------

I've bolded the relevant definition, of course. In the meaning I am using in this thread, I refer to a seemingly unrelated (through causality) sequence of events which have a definate link in space and time as far as our conscious perception is concerned.

For example: you think "I should give joanne a call..." and a few seconds/minutes later she calls you. There should be no simple causal relation between the events, though. If you are expecting her to call then it would not be synchronicity.

Yes but I'm into quite a lot of things that my life would be relatively the same with or without.

For instance, it does not change my life much to ponder the question of the existence of spacetime...yet I do so anyway because I am an inquisitive guy who likes to know things. Knowing the nature of spacetime certainly won't put food on my table, at any rate :smirk:

Seems like a fine line between expecting something to happen based on a "hunch" and something happening at the same moment you thought about it.

The "hunch" could be considered synchronicity.

Again, I'm saying that synchronicity is a set of related events which do not have an apparent causal relation.

Having a "hunch" that someone is about do call you is quite different from expecting someone to call you because it was pre-planned.

But if it had not been that soundgarden song, it wouldn't have been synchronicity. So what?

but it would have, because chances are that the next song will work its way into other thoughts of trendals life. We will see the synchronicities everywhere all the time if we attune ourselves to that 'frequency'.

right on

soundgarden rules, and that is one of my favorite songs by them!

sycronicities happen to me so often now that I only notice when they don't happen.

Well if it hadn't been that song...it wouldn't have meant anything nor would it have caught my attention.

But it was that song.

I notice synchronicities every once and awhile...

Its really about where your focus is at and what you are tuned into... its definitely a highly subjective and personal thing. No one can really make anything of it except the person who experiences it.

Quote:

So, what does THIS have to do with synchronisity? Synchronicity doesn't have ANYTHING to do with predicting the future, from my understanding of it...

When I am involved in two conversations at the same time on MSN, and within one minute both people say the same thing when the conversations are totally different and I haven't said anything to either of them to produce that statement, how the hell am I going to make money out of it?

So, what is the problem with recognizing and finding meaning in synchronicities? People find meaning in every action they make or experience... always experiencing and assigning meaning... to ignore such occurences would be to ignore reality.
Peace.
