Protein powder and pre-workout supplement causing male pattern baldness
    #21457284 -

About seven months ago I joined a gym and shortly after I started using a pre-workout supplement and protein powder.

I didn't realize that those things would cause balding.

I have the typical initial symptoms of male pattern baldness with the hair from my temples receding, looking something like this:

I finally realized this week that it's probably my pre-workout supplement and/or protein powder causing the hair loss, so I have stopped taking those; I've also started using Nizoral shampoo to try to get my hair back, or at the least stop any further hair loss.

So, has anyone gone through what I have?  I'm 24.  Is it normal to start balding at 24?
Has your hair grown back after stopping the workout supplements/protein powder?

Haha what? hair recession is genetic, protein powder nor pre workout caused your male pattern baldness.

It's a possibility.

Hair recession is genetic, true, but there's more to it than that.

"A variety of conditions can cause hair loss, including:

Hormonal changes. Hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss. This could be due to pregnancy, childbirth or the onset of menopause. Hormone levels are also affected by the thyroid gland, so thyroid problems may cause hair loss."

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hair-loss/basics/causes/con-20027666

So, I am hoping that my hair loss is temporary and is caused by my workout supplements/protein powder causing hormonal changes; if I stop then my hormones should return to normal.

Protein powder and preworkouts dont change your hormones though. Hairloss is caused by your follicles sensitivity to DHT which heightens as you age

It happens with age man.  Unless their is amphetamines in your protein powder I doubt its contributing to your baldness.

Well, if it really isn't my supplements then it's just pretty strange timing that my balding started shortly after I started taking the supplements.

You taking any type of testosterone or prohormone?  that is the only thing that will do it.

How old are you?  My hair started a receding line at about 18 then stopped, still have a thick head of hair and done steroid cycles over 20 years.

Although I know some people that went almost completely bald by 30 years old, naturally.

My hair currently looks like Rob Zombies in my pic...

Not that I know of.  The only thing I can think of that I haven't mentioned yet is that I have been taking Vitamin Ester-C sometimes over the past few months with a lot of raw garlic.

I am newly 24.
18 is pretty young, but I'm glad it stopped for you.  And that's interesting that the steroids haven't made you bald, I guess you have good hair genes.

Besides me taking all natural shit I could actually afford to lose some hair.

OP cause protein and caffiene makes hair just like vanish?

No protein or pre workout supp causes male pattern baldness. You're not even balding. Good excuse to post a giant photo of your mug though. I remember taking the original Ultimate Orange pre-workout drink. I think there was more than effedrine in those first batches.

Hate to break it to all you protein junkies but excessive protein causes hair loss, among other problems. It isn't the powder that's the problem necessarily either, it's the fact your body doesn't need nearly as much as people shove in it, especially the up and coming athletes who think they know it all because they fucking googled some shit
