Substrate is 9 quarts volume.

1 small brick coir
2 quarts verm
a cup of gypsum
5 quarts water

its usually 10 quarts volume for me. what i did was take about a quart of that volume out and use it as casing layers for other tubs.

this is what i did.

GRAIN WAS PREPPED USING FOOMAN'S GRAIN TEK IN 2 HOURS

MADE 40 QUARTS WBS GRAIN JARS FROM 1 PF JAR SLURRY (THAI CLONE FOR A TEST RUN BELOW)

THAI LIPA YAI (TEST CLONE UNCASED TUB):
TUB 1 YIELD: TOTAL 450g 17.9 oz
1st: 240 grams 8.5 oz
2nd: 70 grams 2.5oz
3rd: 59g 2oz
4th: 81g 2.9oz

MIXED UP 1 SMALL BRICKS COIR, 2 QUARTS VERM, 1 CUP GYPSUM, 5 QUARTS WATER

EXPANDED THE COIR WITH HOT WATER

DUMPED IN THE DRY VERM AND MIXED IT ALL UP WITH THE COIR. THEN POURED THE GYPSUM THAT WAS MIXED IN WITH 4 CUPS OF THE WARM WATER ON TOP OF THE VERM COIR MIX. THEN MIXED IT ALL UP.

PUT IT IN TURKEY TINS IN THE OVEN FOR 2.5 HOURS. INNER CORE TEMP WAS BROUGHT TO 170 THEN SET FOR 2 HOURS AT THAT TEMP.

ONCE COOL, FLIPPED THE TURKEY TIN UPSIDE DOWN IN MY PRE LINED TUB.
I TOOK A WIDE MOUTH QUART JAR THAT I RETROFITTED A BLADE ASSEMBLY TO THE LID. I PRESSURE COOKED 3/4 QUART OF WATER AND THE BLADE ASSEMBLY. ONCE COOL, I USED A SHMUVBOX FOR CLEAN WORK AND TOOK THE LID OFF 1 COLONIZED QUART. I POURED HALF OF THE 3/4TH QUART OF WATER INTO THAT COLONIZED QUART AND QUICKLY PUT THE METAL BLADE ON IT. I THEN USED A DRILL BIT ON THE END OF THE BLENDER TO BLEND UP THE JAR. I THEN DID THE SAME THING ON THE 2ND COLONIZED QUART OF GRAIN. I POURED THE REST OF THE WATER INTO THE 2ND QUART, THEN PUT THE SAME LID ON THE 2ND QUART JAR. THEN BLENDED IT WITH THE DRILL BIT. I POURED IT ALL INTO THE SUBSTRATE AND MIXED IT IN THOROUGHLY WITH THE PASTEURIZED SUBSTRATE WITH GLOVES ON.(I DIDN'T TAKE PICS SO IM SUBSTITUTING SOME I HAVE THAT ILLUSTRATE THIS)

BLEND WASN'T QUITE THIS SOUPY BUT DID LOOK SOMEWHAT LIKE THIS.

THE QUART LID IS LIKE THIS.

Yeah. Speed is what I like. Lets get rid of this waiting game. Not to mention that using the 9er tek can get a clone to fully colonize a PF cake in 4 days. That clone PF cake can be expanded to over 50 qt jars of grain in another 3 days. LOOOK, 7 days to get 50qts of spawn. blows my fucking mind.

thats fucking crazy.

Anyway, could anyone opine on the speed differences between: agar wedge, G2G, LC, agar slurry, grain slurry

(I'm presuming that's the right order but I've only partial experience)

An agar wedge is the slowest. When I have inoculated grain jars with a wedge they usually took about 2 weeks to colonise. Agar LI and G2G take about the same amount of time for me it is usually about 8 days give or take. The difference is. With G2G you first need to inoculate a grain jar and let it colonise before you can use it to G2G to more jars. With LI you just inoculate all the jars you need right away. I have only very limited experience with slurry so I cant really say. I think it is probably the fastest but you will need to let whatever you are making your slurry with colonise before you can use it for slurry.

I'd completely agree with you there. I got myself a blender but I didn't even use it yet. Sucking up a bit of myc from agar and starting off a liquid culture seems to only take a week and means you can do jar after jar that colonises clean and quick. I'm just curious whether agar slurry would save that week, I don't think I'd bother with grain slurry.

I get colonization of grains in just 4-6 days with agar wedges by simply shaking the shit out of them after resealing... LI is definitely the easiest, most consistent, and most spreadable way to achieve that though

I was under the impression you didn't want to shake after doing A2G as it would slow colonization. Thought that was said in the Let's Grow Mushrooms videos.

Is that not correct information? Obviously you're having speedy times!

Some people just roll them around, but I do like Violet and shake them like crazy. You can't see it, but it distributes the myc pretty good.

Growing mostly galindoi and it hates shaking. Much better to shake an LI through immediately than to shake once a wedge has grown out.

Is that in a quart jar? If so that's really fast. I usually don't see the myc jump off the agar for at least a couple of days.

It's a pint container.  I have had the similar results in quarts tho.
It does take a whole day to see the wedge recover, at least. And another day or two before the mycelium rubbed onto the grains establishes and starts to spread. But then it can explode and finish in no time.

You can see the wedges' growth hasn't increased from the 2nd to 3rd photo - the growth exploded just overnight from the mycelium on the 3 wedges rubbing off everywhere then establishing on the grains before colonizing outward quickly.

Hey guys i think this is a great idea for LI or LC. No syringes.

I was thinking in pouring LI to an autoclavable pp5 wash bottle in a SAB or hood

This way Grain jars inoculation will be mega easy and faster, it won't be a "puoring" it would be more like a "aim and shoot", this means you will have your grain jars less time open/exposed=less contam chances. Also workflow would be faster finishing all your jars inoculations in no time.

The liquid dispenser is so small that you can seal it with parafilm after finishing inoculating all your jars and probably enough for GE too.

Also the dispenser conduct is so small compared to the wide mouth of the mason jars, that you won't need to worry about any contams entering trough the dispenser conduct while you're inoculating in the SAB or flowhood (easier sterile procedures).

Another advantage is that, you have better control of the inoculation amounts depending on how much you squeeze the bottle.

The only problem would be pouring LI or LC trough the narrow mouth of the wash bottle, but i'm sure there is autoclavables wide mouth wash bottles out there like this one

yeah, just wait, grain slurry is the future!

i am pressure cooking my pint jars as we speak. im going to use regular mouth pint jars as my slurry jars. ill inoculate 2-1 pint jars with my clone. then pc two blade assemblies wrapped in foil, 2 more 1 pint jars with 1/2 pint of water each. ill open the lids, pour the water in and put my sterilized blade assembly on each jar. ill then bland it and pour into my prepared quart jars!

im thinking  a pint 3/4 full of grain should be far more than i will need for at least 100 quart jars of grain. id think this would be ideal for bag spawn.

Quote:
Ha ha, it is!!!!

take a look, i updated that thread with a 7 tub grow all from slurry. 4 cased, 3 uncased. i also did one tub with grain slurried directly to the substrate. i updated it all in one post on page 36 I believe.

grain slurry directly to substrate.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21089326#21089326

grain slurry prepped grain. then jars were used to spawn tubs normally.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21089970#21089970

the grain slurry im referring to above is a g2g grain slurry. i call it (grain slurry to grain transfer(GS2G). easier to abbreviate. i think it will work if the brf slurries are working so well. muda and i both thought slurrying grain to substrate directly would contam once the subs were fruiting. but, i used smaller grain like wbs as my slurry. muda tried the oats and his blended more into a mud(pun intended). the wbs slurry consistency was a little soupy but it did colonize and fruit without contamination. ive also been experimenting with slurries for the past 5 years so ive done quite  a bit of experimentation. ive done slurried grain preps over 20 times all with great successful grows. im going to start taking more pictures and documenting it more for everyone. i didn't take pictures when i was trying it out a while back as i didn't have a good camera then. then everyone wants to argue that im spreading contams which is not the case. ill just keep showing it works and its repeatable. out of 3 grain slurry tubs thus far ive had 0 contams on more than 1 flush. i have my recent 2 quart grain slurry tub on 2nd flush now after a "tribal dunk".

i think using an agar wedge and blending it into an LI to use as your master is great. Pour that into 10 regular mouth pint grain masters. and then use those masters to slurry 100 quart jars of grain each? or if your doing bottle teks you can pour it into the sub. but, before anyone goes "balls deep" into making 100 quart jars of grain slurry. let me test it out first. intial trial this week! coming to a shroomery near you.

also the grows above were done in my new setup. which has a really high temperature during the day. it got upwards of 83 degrees. that may have speed things up by a day or two. i now have the temps down to 78 degrees consistently. i think this will add about 2 days to my fruiting for a total of 15 days from spawn to fruit. i also intend to do a 3 quart slurry to substrate tub. two quarts will be slurried, one quart will be spawned normally to the tub. if 2 quarts give me 3 days colonization. id hope it speeds things up with the additional quart. but i can't see the tub colonizing any faster than 3 days.

normally with 5 quarts of spawn per 10 quart volume tub when i spawn normally, i get colonization in 5 days. so i shaved 2 days off that with slurried grain. but, the 2 quart tub slurry actually colonized as fast side by side with all the other 7 tubs that were spawned normally with half the spawn. all tubs colonized in 3 days and were introduced to fruiting on day 4.

I just started using a new method to make my blender lids.
I start by cutting the gasket off of a metal jar lid. Then I silicone it to my blade assembly. After that I use silicone to attach a jar ring. Now my blender lids make a perfect seal on the jars.

I also just found a Canadian site that caries replacement pars and ordered 4 new blade assemblies for $30 including shipping.
