try to remember that Prisoner#1 (as well as most people on the shroomer) isnt necessarily a reliable source for health related information. just because he's a moderator doesnt mean he's a credible source of information. i highly doubt he has a degree in nutrition or has done a whole lot of research on the subject. below is a link to good guidelines for fruit intake:

http://www.choosemyplate.gov/printpages/MyPlateFoodGroups/Fruits/food-groups.fruits-amount.pdf

you should make about half of your plate fruits and vegetables at every meal, meaning about 1/4 of the food you intake at every meal should be fruit.

Quote:
no, I dismissed it on the quality of taste, nothing more, I dont give two
shits about what it healthy and what isnt, I eat and cook with pork and
beef fats, I eat sugars in several forms, i use real butter because these
are flavors I enjoy and if I'm going to die then I want to die of something
related to an enjoyable life

i agree with the bottom portion of your quote, i deep fry chicken in bacon fat and smother it in country gravy about once a week. i love waffles, i love butter, etc.

Quote:
If you drink one cup of coffee or tea with sugar you might want to switch it to Xylitol. Cheap on ebay and a teaspoon of xylitol a day is good for you.

Quote:
yeah... I dont think so.

I prefer the flavors I get from regular old table sugar, all these
artificial sweeteners, I dont like the taste or the after taste

you see how in this quote it would be easy to misinterpret what you said as you not thinking xylitol is good for you? the poster ends with xylitol is good for you, then you say yeah.... I dont think so. pretty much dismissing him right off the bat. i see what you mean now, but your wording was inarticulate at best.

do you like the flavor of any chewing gum? i only ask because almost all gum is sweetened with xylitol. and most people enjoy gum. and yet again, xylitol is not an artificial sweetener, it is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol.

Butter is a fuck of a lot better than margarine... that's for sure.

And I also hate xylitol. From the minute I had it in toothpaste.

I don't chew gum that has xylitol or aspartame (the devil) in it. Which makes my gum choices extremely limited. But I almost never chew gum anyway.

Fuck splenda too for that matter. Give me cane sugar and I'm happy as a pig in shit.

and there is definitely enough information to suggest a correlation between the rise in the use of hfcs and the rise in diabetes. repeat, i said CORRELATION. correlation does not prove causation necessarily but it does usually indicate a connection in data points.

I dont chew gum and xylitol is still considered an artificial sweetener,
aspartame is also naturally occurring but an artificial sweetener

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylitol

Quote:
A study in rats found that xylitol had reduced or nonexistent side effects compared to other artificial sweeteners, and lower caloric value and cariogenicity than sucrose.[11]

"I dont chew gum and xylitol is still considered an artificial sweetener"

youre just arguing semantics, if it occurs naturally then it is not artificial.

how does this quote disprove what ive said about xylitol being healthy? this quote actually proves what ive been saying all along.

xylitol is also extremely good for your teeth, hence its use as a sweetener in gum

i think you mean it tastes like crap. and sorry, but thats your opinion and i highly doubt that you have actually taste tested it by itself. i use it to backsweeten homebrewed cider and that shit is delicious.

I have tasted it by itself and yes that is my opinion. I don't think taste can be an absolute fact, heh.

Some people love cilantro. For some people it taste like soap.

is it still natural? I mean sure, it does occur naturally but... wouldnt
this make aspartame also a natural sweetener since the amino acids used
to make aspartame are also naturally occurring

Quote:
industrial production starts from xylan (a hemicellulose) extracted from hardwoods or corncobs, which is hydrolyzed into xylose and catalytically hydrogenated into xylitol

again, I'm not referring to whether or not it's healthy, just showing that
it's still considered an artificial sweetener

processed&synthesized  = artificial

If it was completely natural, it would be xylan

anything can be linked to anything else, many things are linked to cancer
and many of them havent caused cancer and arent known to cause cancer, we
can link homicide and schizophrenia to water

before HFCS was being added to everything under the sun how many people
were being tested for diabetes in comparison to the numbers being tested
now. before the creation of sunscreen how many skin cancer diagnoses' were
there in relation to the numbers now, with more people being encouraged to
use sun screen and a 77% increase in treatments for skin cancer since 1992
I believe we've found a link between the use of sunscreen and skin cancer

I think it's mostly the titanium dioxide found in some sunscreens which is the possible link to cancer.

Not all sunscreens have titanium dioxide however. But most do.

honey, even raw, natural honey is processed, the comb is removed from a hive,
the comb is decapped and extracted and then bottled, it is a process, we can
also add straining and pasteurization if we want but it's still a natural
sweetener for all intents and purposes. in the case of aspartame, I'm told by
many sources that for industrial use it's derived from the 'feces' of e coli,
wouldnt that make it more natural than industrial xylitol since it's not
actually synthesized but just the collection from a natural process from
bacteria
