The whole premise of this "debate" is flawed. The original poster believes that drug use doesn't harm anyone *else*. This is just untrue. Drug use can and does affect and harm people other than the person taking the drugs. The only possible way that "legalizing" all drugs could possibly work is if people had to apply for a license to show that they actually were making intelligent and informed decisions; even that would still leave friends, family members and society at large vulnerable to the actions of the drug user.
Before you go jumping to any conclusions about me, I do take recreational drugs and have tried just about everything there is and what that has taught me is that some drugs are illegal because they should be.
I certainly don't agree with drug legislation as it stands, for a start I think alcohol should be regulated much more than it is. I have been the victim of drunk people on more than one occasion i.e. them deciding to take a drug - me suffering the consequences. The task of researching, testing and regulating all the different drugs out there would take years but that doesn't mean it isn't worth it.
Comparing people who believe there needs to be sensible regulation of potentially hazardous chemicals to Zealous Bible bashers is so wrong that it is almost funny. The only person acting in such an extreme way is the OP who believes his/her opinion on the matter is the only valid one; very much like religious extremists.
As for the idea that someone could NEED meth: if your life is that bad there are better things than meth. The only reason you could possible need meth is if you decided you had too many teeth, didn't look old enough and were way too productive. :p

What do you mean when you say that drug use affects and harms people other than the user? Friends, family members and society at large is vulnerable to the actions of non-drug users as well. What's your point?

To what consequences are you referring? Did they harm you in some way that was already illegal?

It depends how you define "sensible regulation." I think the comparison between bible thumpers and drug prohibitionists is accurate: they both believe in something contrary to what evidence suggests.

Methamphetamine is Schedule II on the federal level in the US, meaning it's been agreed to have medical use. Doctors can prescribe people meth (under names such as Desoxyn) for treatment of ADHD and narcolepsy, as well as serious obesity issues that the patient has little control over for whatever reasons.
Meth helps a lot of people increase productivity. Many people in Asia use it to put more hours in at work to feed their families, just as a lot of people in the US do.

I'm honestly less worried about the government than uneducated schmucks trying to make an extra buck by selling 2ci as LSD or meth as coke. Have had both issues, and its not cool.
*in regard to tampering with a drug

Yeah when they're legal, they're sold by licensed vendors and are subjected to quality control. When they're illegal, they're sold by street dealers so anything goes.
