Staff opinion on moving Romper Room back to being a subforum of OTD?
    #20884077 -

I'm not sure if this the right forum for this post, but a lot of staffers post here, so I figured it would get more pertinent replies here.

Every RR regular I've talked to about this feels it should be moved back, as do I.

I know not many staffers care about the place, but the posters there do. Lately the place has been in a downward spiral, only a few posters frequent the place, it's gotten really slow, and the post quality(while not always the highest) is very low.

I wasn't around when it was an OTD subforum, but I have read a lot of threads from then, it was way more active and overall the posts were better.

There's no way to tell for certain, but I believe by moving it back it has a better chance of being restored to how it used to be. A lot of users here don't even know the forum exists, and some that do don't even know where to find it, if it is moved back more people will know about it/see it so it will get more traffic.

I see many upsides and really no downsides.

Do any staffers have an opinion on the matter?

OTD doesn't want Romper Room back.

You don't have to post there, you can even hide the forum if you want.

I agree. More people would post in romper room if it was placed back in its original home.

This really isn't the place to try and derail a thread and be disrespectful to me when there is a topic at hand.

If you have a valid point/concern about the topic feel free to express it, otherwise your comments are unneeded, thanks.

Romper room shares similarities with both SA and OTD.  It has the anonymous element of SA and the lax rules of OTD.  It fits just fine in either place.  The real question is whether the people who run the site want it to get more traffic.  I can't answer that, but as I recall, it was pretty much a garbage forum as a subforum of OTD.

Was it originally an SA subforum? If so do you know around what time it was moved to OTD?

I thought it was an OTD subforum when it was first created.

I think it was briefly in the anonymous section, then moved to OTD and then back. As far as I've ever seen, it's basically a place for people to anonymously bitch about OTD regulars they don't have the balls to directly address (cause one layer of online anonymity clearly isn't enough, right?) and it's worthless wherever it happens to be located.

Its not worthless. Its one of the most freedom based forums available. People have ultimate freedom. Which sometimes leads to ultimate fun. It would be more fun with more traffic in the otd corner.

To be fair, it was very slightly less shit when it was part of OTD.

I would also like to see it restored to a subforum of OTD. It's purpose in it's current place is almost non existent. Under OTD, it'll at least attract people seeking a rules lax place.

Not to be rude, but I don't think you e seen much of it then, that does occasionally happen, but not too often. Half of the time it is done it's done jokingly, like "OTD keeps sending pizzas to my house, how can I get the torture to stop?" or something similar, when someone comes in there and genuinely complains about OTD they're almost always told to fuck off.

The forum doesn't have a big purpose but neither do the other off-topic forums here such as the pub or OTD. The main purpose, IMO, is for people to come and discuss basically anything they want, with very lax rules, and an added anonymous function to add to the shenanigans(and possibly security.) I think it should be defaulted to non-anon, but still have the option to post anon, but that's an issue for another time.

It hasn't always had the highest post quality, but it was significantly higher when it was in OTD compared to now.

The Romp is a place where Pubbers can post with OTD rules and not get their feelings hurt. Their fragile Internet identities.

:crymeariver:

Rompers could sack up and just post OTD and that forum can just be thrown away IMO.

There's no anon function in OTD though, which adds another aspect to posting. Some things don't work when posted non-anon, it takes away bias which can make certain trolls work better.

Also OTD regs are very cliquey, some people don't like dealing with that, in RR that is minimal.

I find the mystery aspect of RR what makes it funny. It's redundant but that's what's funny about it sometimes. But I could care less what forum it's under. Like Enlil says, it fits the bill for both OTD and Anon

Yeah, it does fit about equal in both, SA for the anon aspect and OTD for the lax rules aspect. I think it may fit a little more with OTD though, mainly because I personally think the lax rules are a little more important than the anon function, but not by much though.

I, as well as many others, just think it would thrive more as an OTD subforum compared to what it's doing now as an SA subforum. That's not just based on nothing though, there is plenty of evidence readily available that supports that claim that you will see if you frequent the forum.

You are in a minority of people who want that to happen.  OTD is much better off without any more stupid subforums.  The "Inferno" one Andy left behind in there is awful and should also be deleted.  Romper Room was funny years ago when we all made stupid rhymes and signed off as cherk in all of them but you wouldn't know anything about that, mj.  It's better as a sub of Anon so all the would-be anon trolls have a place to get it out of their systems rather than make problems in the regular Anon forum.
