*One thing for sure, (whoever mentioned this) contraceptives are not prohibitted. Give the over-populators that much.

Been to Utah?

Perhaps contraceptives are allowed... but a LARGE family is incouraged.

Frankly, I was surprised by how secrative many Mormons were while I grew up. I always asked my Mormon friends questions about their faith and it was often difficult to get answers... especialy about things like, baptism for the dead, or garments.

Anyone wanna help me write another bible to compete with the regular bible and the Book of Mormon? Since I have learned on here that I am a god, I figgured I might write me a holy book, and make sure to include that drugs are the shizzat. We will all sit down and read the bible over to make sure we can mimic the writing style well, then we will eat 5 dried Cubensis grams each, and smoke a couple ounces of hash while we formulate our masterpiece. Then we can base a religion on it, and offer people a chance to go to heaven trippin' and stoned. PM me for organization of the project. Peace.

My mom is mormon and I was raised in the LDS church. Im not going to bother reading half of these threads cause Im sure I will rub shoulders with people who choose to ridicule this religion. Basically, Im not a poster child mormon, I do drugs and have had sex before marrage and my body has been inpurified by the influences of society. But I have never stolen, never cheated, never lied (fibbing Ive done) and consider myself a very moral person. I treat my neaighbors and friends with respect-never gotten into a fight and being the person I have raised to be might have a hand in why I have so many aquaintances. (im not trying to flatter myself here) Basically, they are strict with the rules, but LDS is only trying to improve upon society and do realize these rues will become broken. They know people will drink caffeine and go to rated R movies but basically they are shooting for an A and hoping for a B type of thing. Poligamy was something that was very apparent back in the pilgrim-pioneer days when wives would die while giving birth and men were scarce from battle. It was a desperate measure of continuing the line. (mormans are not the only religion who has practiced poligamy throughout history.) One thing you should remeber is never judge a book before you read it. Millions of people have tranferred to the mormon religion because when they read "the book of Mormon" it became very apparent to them that this book was not written by a man. If you ever come in contact with a mormon, I think you will agree how kind, compasionate and there high concern for humanity actually is. Sitting in church for 3 hours and following such strict guidelines is something I personally would never be able to tolerate.... but the morman church has taught me the ethics that I believe has made me the semeretan I am today. I will be happy to answer any specific questions I know if you care to ask.

Well said orizon.

Many of the greatest things I've learned, I learned from Mormons. They get a bad rap. Their religion sounds weird but, it works or the most part.

I do think the Mormon Church has a few too many rules. Most people can't live up to all of them and they tend to feel very guilty about covering these actions up. Of course, I'm talking about Utah Mormons. There are so many mormons in Utah. Many feel paranoid if they break their church's rules.

Too bad... if it works for someone, it works well.

Yeah, it was probably written by monkeys trained to use quill pens by moonlight.

At least others that write amazing and provocative things (Terrence Mc Kenna, stuff from the Eastern religions, me ) don't claim that their writings were not written by man, but by God. Well, I guess I have been known to claim that I am God from time to time...

Also, in Utah, the Mormon crusaders have conspired to water down the beer to a mere 3.2% alc. Utah is the only state that breweries have to make a special watered down version of their beer for. There is a Wyoming/Utah border town (called Edmanton or something close) on route 80, whos economy is almost entirely fueled by beer sales from disgruntled beer drinkers from Utah coming over to get real beer.

Moral: Passing through Utah? Bring your own beer!!!

Moral of the story: Religion and state are suspossed to be seperate. A religious idea is being forced by law onto others that do not partake of that religion.

Does anyone know the percentage of people in Utah that are Mormon?
Peace.

Very true, however thinking about it makes me very angry, so I just say "bring your own beer"

There is actually a beer you can buy in Utah called " First Amendment Beer". It is advertised on tv Along with messages about the absurdity of Utah's beer law. Of course it's gotta be 3.2% alc.

71.76% as of 1990. Obviously a more recent 2000 figure should be available, but for some reason the site has not been updated with that information.

I recall hearing somewhere that the percentage has fallen dramatically in recent years to roughly 50%. However I cannot remember the source, and therefore cannot state this as fact.

I figured that. However, more importantly is that they definately DO NOT represent the majority of BEER DRINKERS. In a country where there is supposed to be FREEDOM, (as long as your exercise of freedom does not encroach on someone else's freedom), a law enacted by a people to change the ingredients of a beverage that they do not even drink, is deplorable. Is it any wonder these "mormons" were run off from every place that they tried to settle? If I were living in those times, I'm certain I would be among those who were running these totalitarian pricks OUTTA TOWN!!

edit: Oh yeah, also Utah has no lottery, not even scratch offs. How fucking boring is that? To anyone considering moving to Utah, because the mountains are beautiful or whatever, I encourage you to consider carefully before you fuck up and experience massive regret.

Salt Lake City is about 50/50

Most of the small towns are about 90/100 mormon/non mormon.

71.76% sounds about right... but they aren't all devout mormons.

One other thing to mention that's admirable about mormons: the community. They look after each other better than any non-familial community that I've ever seen. Whether it be sickness, poverty, familial strife or whatever, they always seem to take time to help each other out, whether in groups, individually, by the bishop, or always being available to be asked for help. this is actually by far the main reason my parents stay in the religion, the community aspect. i know they question the very existance of god, much less the religion, but they know of no better place to experience that kind of communal spirit. and quite frankly, as much as i disagree with most aspects of the religion, its hard to argue against that. i mean theyre 60 years old (almost), my dad doesnt get along with his coworkers too well, my mom doesnt work, theyve moved around their whole life so they havent kept friends, they dont live in the same state as their families, neighbors have caused far more strife than much else (rich, self-involved neighbors for the most part) so where else can they find such a community as in the mormon church? i know that i can't really answer that question.
