i don't believe in it. people say that this is unnatural, and that is unnatural... i just don't follow.

it's as though to some people, human beings (animals, primates... creatures of the earth) are in some way not as natural as the rest of the ecosystem\earth\universe for some reason, or that their actions are only 'natural' so long as they are something done by other animals as well.

i don't buy it. this computer i'm looking at is 100% natural.

i would say that something is "unnatural" if it contradicts gravity, entropy, or some other law of the universe. then it would be unnatural. all things that exist are totally natural.

I often feel the same way, if we're from nature then everything we do is part of nature and therefore is natural.

Other times though I look at Humans compared to every other living thing on earth, and we just don't seem to have many symbiotic relationships with things in nature. It's as if we came from another planet.

well if we came from another planet we would be natural to the universe, to that planet, but maybe Earth isn't ready for a species that can so radically alter its environment. But if we do come from this earth, solely from the evolution of this Earth, it does make sense that everything we create is natural. Sometimes I look at a sideways picture of a city, and it looks like a giant microchip, like the earth created us to computerize itself.

I agree. There are many things we do which are destructive to nature, but there are other animals that destroy nature as well.

The things that are destructive to nature come from nature. If there was no destructive forces, there would be none of the other stable forces. Think of the duality, yin yang type thing.

Yes, but unfortunately humans seem to be destroying nature faster than it can regenerate itself(example: the rainforests).

That's certainly an arguable position. It could be that human beings' natural purpose is to destroy the earth in order to force other creatures to either adapt or die, thus furthering evolution. But we also have the capacity to preserve life and save it. We should not just accept the destruction of environment because it is natural. We must assume responsibility as care-takers of the earth.

eh, i dont buy it. The only difference i notice between humans and other animals is that we repress ourselves sexually.

I have no problem with consuming shitloads of resources and destroying the environment as long as it is balanced out with well-funded, genuine, perpetually sustained attempts at improved efficiency and exploration of new resources (ie: space)

Nature is constantly being destroyed and rebuilt. Species go extinct, meteors hit the planet, volcanoes, so far life has managed to evolve and replenish itself each time.

Right, but if we plan to survive as a species, we had best stop destroying our environment, for we will eventually destroy ourselves in the process. On the other hand, perhaps our self-destruction could be a good thing.

perhaps we're kinda like the earths "reset" button. *click*
Even if we pass out of existence and take most of the this planets living creatures with us, we'll leave behind a host of others that will thrive in our place, like cockroaches, hell they survive in the cities better than we do and we built them! The planet will restart if all we leave behind is desolation.

oh and i agree, "unnatural" is an idea expressed in the natural world, but that still doesn't make it reality.

Why?

There's nothing bad about the human species. We're doing some damage to the planet, but that's not a bad thing, that's just what happens. We're not out of sync with nature in any way, we've created things ourselves, but that doesn't mean we're evil or bad. It's a pretty fascinating thing in itself. Eventually we'll die off, but for now let's enjoy our computers, cars, and nukes. Oh yeah, and art and music.
