10 cups dry yields me about 7-10 quart jars filled about 2/3 full.

As I mentioned in the write up, your WBS will vary wildly by brand.

The most I ever fill them is 2/3 or 3/4 full. My 10 cups almost never fails to come out to 7 or 8 jars. If I fill them 3/4 full though, I will end up short a jar or two.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the seed will not only vary by brand but also by location and even by the bag. Bird seed is not really known for consistency or good quality control

So I've noticed.. I even found little pebbles in my first batch when I strained it too cool after my simmer.

I'm back on track now and I love that it only took 3.5 cc's to inoculate those 12 jars.  I'll be continuing with your guide once they colonize!

Yeah I noticed my "economy" bag of seed has small grey rock in it.
At first I thought that it was undissolved gypsum granules but I did a batch today sans gypsum. If I forgot gypsum with one 6qt. jar batch is it a big deal do you think?

Yeah I had those little pebbles too but they weren't a problem as they stayed at the bottom of my stockpot when I strained them.  I didn't use gypsum and had no problems.

I was more curious as to what is lacking due to leaving the gypsum out. I have read it helps with clumping and adding minerals. Just don't know if there is more that I haven't read about yet.

that's about it. It helps with clumping which is great but even better is the sulfur and other minerals it gives.

Hey everyone, has anyone ever used a stockpot to sterilize their grains?  Just curious if it's as effective as using a pressure cooker..

nope wont get hot enough, unless you want to steam them for 8-12 hours which it might fail anyway.  for maximized success pc for 90mins at 15psi

Well if your syringe isn't clean it doesn't matter if you PCed your grains either then.
