Ive got an unexpected day off work today (thought i had to work a double, got in and the boss said i could go home and sleep if i wanted... Yes!)
I want to do about 4 10 quart batches today. Ive always soaked and simmered. then i tried FooMans dump boiling water on it and let it sit for a couple hours thing. I dont know if it was that I left in the sunflowers or that this method just doesnt work for me. so what have yall had the most luck with.
I think i may just straight simmer.
and i finally have a viable lc

I don't soak WBS anymore, no real reason. A 30-40 minute simmer (switch to low, once it gets up to heat) and let sit in a strainer for 10 minutes. Stir several times while it dries a bit in the strainer, then load in jars and PC.
Don't bother removing sunflower seeds either. Give it a good initial rinse in the sink before simmering, so your WBS isn't sticky in the jars later on.
Hope that helps

I put the WBS in a 6 gallon stainless cooking pot. Put pot on propane burner. Add water until the level of seed rises 2 inches.
Apply heat. Adjust so mixture stays right around 175-185 F. Stir CONSTANTLY. Remove sunflower seeds(a preference, they are hollow though and I don't like that.).
Watch seeds carefully to determine when they have taken in all the moisture they can take without too much bursting.
Poor into grain bag. Let stand 20 minutes. Hand press extra water off of them.
Spoon into modified jar, PC, cool, inoculate.

i just take my qt. jars and use some kind of cup and put id say 5:2 ration WBS:water. Cover with foil and PC for about 60-70min. Seems to workout for me, and its simple as fuck, so soak, no simmer, just PC.
