WBS question

I have been experimenting with different sterilization and soaking techniques over the past couple weeks. The only jars that are almost 100% colonized contain wbs that I soaked for 24 hours and LIGHTLY simmered for 20 min. The first batch I made was way too wet..contams happened within a couple of days. I just pc'd 7 new jars of wbs for 75 min at 15 psi. They had been soaking for about 2 and a half days. This time I did not simmer. After the PC was done, the kitchen smelled like cooked wbs...not burnt. Inside the pc there was still about 2 inches of water left. The seeds look a tad darker than my colonized ones plus the small grains(the tiny white balls in wbs mix) are not nearly as large as the others. I plan on innoculating them plus another batch of wbs prepped the same way as before. Should I bother innoculating them or should I toss? Would I be able to use the wbs over again by opening the sterilized jars, simmering for 20 minutes and then re-sterilizing? Or would that lead to mush?

I like a 24 - 30 hr soak myself. Make sure they are drained well and PC for 90 minutes.

read this: agar on WBS
No need for a simmer, just keep adding water until the grain stays submerged.
I'd say those jars are fine though, going by your soak time.

if you don't like draying well more the waiting for that to happen toss in a tiny bit of damp verm to the bottom of the jars that will soak up any excess water from you poor draining. this is what i do. also you can rePC grain. ive done it before i thought about the verm thing when i had jars that were just too wet. worked fine. but i didn't resimmer or soak i just drained them better got that extra water away and re PCd to sterilize again. also i cut back on the PC time that time since i didn't need to full bang to get those hardcore buggers killed since id already killed them with the first pc. hope that helps

I soak mine for about 12 hrs or less, i use a tevlk barior then a polly fill lid, i let the WBS dry enough, i usually just shake it around in my pasta strainer then PC @ 15psi for about 90 min as well, so far out of about 40 jars of Z and B+ no contams
