Foodstamps stigma
    #19463996 -

I don't get what the big deal is if you get these as long as you have a job. Basically I have a job, pay over 200 a month in taxes, and get 180 a month in food stamps. Do I need them? Fuck no. The way I see it I just pay less taxes. No different than someone finding a tax loophole. Discuss.

I wish I only paid out $200 in tax per paycheck. Glad you're enjoying my money. Yes we can.

What is the job? How many hours?

Is it hard to get food stamps? Is there some kind of limit on how long you have foods stamps for?

I don't care if people have food stamps as long as they're using them for nutritious food. What annoys me is seeing people standing in line with their obese children buying nothing but shit food like ice cream, mountain dew, candy bars, and other junk foods with food assistance money. I also get annoyed when I see people using their food stamps to buy good organic milk in glass bottles, dump out the milk, and return the bottle just to get the four dollar deposit. They do it with pop cans here too. They'll buy a couple twelve packs of pop, dump it all out, and return the cans for the deposit so they can buy beer and cigarettes. If people are using food assistance to actually pay for food so that their income goes to other things, that's fine. And I don't care what they spend their own income on. Spend it all on hookers and blow for all I care, but food stamps should be spend on food which should then be consumed, not wasted.

I could probably get them because I am a college student and have had to drastically cut my work hours this semester. I doubt I'll apply.

#3 I believe you can have them for as long as you are eligible. The way I understand it you are re-evaluated every so often to see if you are still eligible and if they need to adjust how much you are getting based on any changes in your income.

If they had the forethought, discipline and time to cook nutritious food at home they wouldnt need foodstamps.  Its ridiculously cheap to eat healthy food at home.  What it does take is discipline and planning, something the poor very much lack. This is why they buy junk food, overpriced prepared food, cigarettes and booze with their foodstamps.

Heh, there was one poor ass family my wife worked with.  They got their water shut off so they used their food stamp money to buy cases of water bottles they used to fill the toilet.  Then they took the bottles back to get the deposit and buy cigarettes with that.  Food stamp money well spent...  Of course if they didnt have this inefficient mentality they wouldnt need food stamps to begin with.

You'd think they would have sold the food stamps to pay to get their water turned on

Nah it's not hard. You basically go to social services and fill out the form with your expenses, household info, and how much you get paid. I make 800ish a month and they think I pay 600 a month in rent. When rent was 330 I got like 90 bucks instead of 180. I've been getting them for over a year, there is no time limit that I am aware of. You just gotta go back to social services every 6 months.

I pay taxes too. I'd see your point if I had no job but the point I am making is it's basically a tax cut for me.

Plus if the government cracked down on who gets ebt/welfare do you really think people would pay less taxes?

Poor people who are on food stamps chose to be poor and live that life style. Then they cry when the government doesn't give them enough free money.

Have you ever lived off food stamps? You would be eating some disgusting ass food and use 2.25$ a meal, the average is less then that

the people who complain about food stamps complain the person on food stamps is buying nicer food! but they wouldn't be if they didnt have a job in the first place else they would starve themselves

No I don't live off food stamps. I work and provide for my family. 2 adults and 2 children and we average $1.40 per person per meal. We eat good food. It's not organic or high end meats but it's not disgusting food.

The next time someone complains about food stamps they should realize that billionaires and millionaires get 10 times the government handouts that poor people get.
The rich focus our attention on the benefits the poor get and distract us from the welfare the rich get.
Dumb poor people are taught to hate and fear each other. No one mentions the solid gold toilet some rich person bought with a tax loophole they bought.
There is significantly more corruption in the welfare given as farm subsidies than in food stamps, but the poor people are still our focus.

The more you hate the poor the more you hate yourself.
Why is it that rich people get welfare and no one cares what they buy or that they committed fraud to get it, but everyone on here who eats like a pig, thinks the poor shouldn't be allowed to buy what they want for food.

Rich people also pay most of the taxes, like the vast overwhelming majority of the taxes.

Apparently,  most people dont know how agricultural subsidies wre given out and why this is important to the food stamps program.
For every acre of certain crops one grows such as corn, soybeans,  and many others, the farmer gets paid by the government. That payment amount is huge!
Most of the farm subsidies go to large farms and corporations.  It is basically a giveaway to farmers to produce certain agricultural crops in order to guarantee supply.

The very small money given to people on food stamps ensures that a government that pays to grow food doesn't have starving people. The surplus food is bought through subsidies to farmers. If we are going to pay rich people to grow our food, why should we have poor people starve?

The cheapest foods are corn and sugar.
